Solaris?

Featured Replies

I've tried Mac OS's, I've tried Windows OS's and I've tried Linux. Just out of curiousity, what are people's feeling on Solaris? Pros? Cons?

I use Solaris daily. Unless there is some special software that you need, there is probably no reason to use Solaris over Linux, in my opinion.

By using Solaris, you will be limiting your access to a lot of support and software available to Linux.

I haven't used Solaris regularly for awhile, but I certainly used to. If you want my general opinion on it I think it's a great OS for a server but would recommend against using it for a desktop. You'd be a lot better off with something like Ubuntu if you want a Unix-based desktop

solaris is not really intended to be a desktop OS. It is more of a server OS.
