Quick note about links to threads/posts

Featured Replies

When posting a link to a thread in another thread on the site, do not paste the URL. Instead, use the xxxx[/i]] tag.

For example, to link to this thread you would do this:

A link to this thread

Resulting in:

A link to this thread

Alternatively, if you want the link text to be the same as the thread URL, simply do this:

[thread]37063

Resulting in:

[thread]37063[/thread]

The reason for this is that when the site is reorganised or moved, any small change to the directory structure can break absolute URLs. This has happened a few times in SFN's history and as a result the site is littered with broken links to our own content!

If you want to link to a specific post, for the same reasons as above you should use the xxxx[/i]] tag.

For example:

Sayo's post #1

Resulting in:

Sayo's post #1

Thanks, I wasn't aware of that code and I'll probably forget again. I'm assuming you'll sticky this/make it an announcement?

Interesting. I didn't know about this either. Thanks for the heads-up!

I'm going to sticky this now because I've just read it and still lost it a minute later.

Can an Admin move this down the sticky list so Introduce Yourself is still at the top? I don't think I can do that.

The mostly recently replied-to threads float just as the normal forum threads do.

*applauds for this thread*

After 724 posts, and just copypasting the other thread's url, I will change my habit.

Thanks for helping me keep my own posts readable after the year 2020. :D
