EU bans incandescent light bulbs

I think that a ban is a stupid idea. A 100% or even 500% tax on them would be a better solution. Anyone who wants one can buy one, and their cost would be comparable to that of a compact fluorescent. Most stores would probably quit selling them too. Much less crude, and more profitable, than a ban.

Interesting problem came up this weekend. My garage door openers are designed such that I can't use those new flourescents I like. The base of them is a bit large to fit right, so I had to buy incandescents.

I just wanted to say I'm sorry that I helped to contribute to the death of the planet in this way, but I did punish myself by denying myself ANY porn this weekend. That'll teach me.

Another option would have been to make a change to the light socket in the opener, opening it up in such a way as to allow for the different bulbs. At least had you done that, you could have done your part to help the Earth AND kept your porn, as well as felt more "accomplished' about your little engineering project on the house.

Instead, you just gave up. :embarass:

You might try LED bulbs. Their bases are still a bit bulgy, but tend to be less so than their CFL counterparts.
