Klaynos
There are lots of variants of the F5D7010 (I count at least 6) What you need to do is follow the instructions at the start of: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/WirelessCardsSupported Then find the card here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HardwareSupportComponentsWirelessNetworkCardsBelkin And see what it says, you might need to use ndiswrapper... https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/Ndiswrapper
Vlad007
when you open Firefox (or whatever explorer you use) what does the message say? does it say it can't load the page? If you go to http://www.belkin.com/support/article/?lid=en&aid=6003 it has the driver download. If that doesn't work, and your comp. just doesn't recognize the network card, then you should probably not use that card, considering that you most likely won't be able to make the computer recognize the card. It has the windows drivers there.... which might work if he uses ndiswrapper but there may well be a simpler alternative.
Vlad007
Does your sister value that notebook at all? just wondering. ah, ok.
antimatter
Not at all, as I posted earlier, though I'd still enjoy for it to be usable... Er...internet still isn't working. This is frustrating, I even hardwired it and I couldn't access the internet...
Vlad007
Did you try multiple cables? if all of them don't work, then there is probably something wrrong with the computer, not with Ubuntu...
Klaynos
It's quite unusual for a wired Ethernet card not to work with ubuntu...

antimatter
It did work with XP, and that's the weirdest part. Other than the Internet problem, the computer seems to be running smoother than ever with Ubuntu, I don't think I'll have to switch to Xubuntu after all... I just hope I get teh internet working... Vlad007
So the laptop's internet worked with XP, but not with Ubuntu? the OS shouldn't effect the internet...
Cap'n Refsmmat
Unless the OS doesn't have drivers for the network card.
insane_alien
So the laptop's internet worked with XP, but not with Ubuntu? the OS shouldn't effect the internet... it does if said OS does not hve driver for your ethernet adapter. this is definitely a strange one. i think you would be better going to the ubuntu forums for this. the people there are really good at solving problems, quick to. antimatter
Yeah, you're probably right. Though the thing is, I was looking at some stuff yesterday, and I saw it was running all generic drivers that come with Ubuntu, so perhaps my computer doesn't really work with these drivers, in which case I am...screwed (for lack of better words)

Cap'n Refsmmat
Check over on the Ubuntu forums to see if there are any tutorials on how to get your network card working under Ubuntu. Sometimes you have to get drivers from elsewhere or configure them differently.

insane_alien
at they very worst he'd have to use ndiswrapper to use the windows drivers. note: I have NO idea how to set this up as i have never had this problem.

antimatter
I don't know, I'm still a little unsure. Somehow I knew this was going to happen, it just seemed a little too easy. I really think it's the network card that is broken, which is rather unfortunate.
