how to make oxygen?

Featured Replies

That oxygen stream sounds like fun. :)

YT, with NIB you mean Neodymium Iron Boron? Because that's what NdFeB means. :)

Now that were talking about graphite, anyone know where to get pyrolytic graphite? You can make it levitate with four square shaped N40 NdFeB-magnets. :)

You can make small neodymium magnets levitate on bismuth too.

there are many good ways to produce oxygen. try decomposing hydrogen peroxide, sodium chlorate, potassium nitrate, etc.

How do you decompose Kno3?

I've got some of that some where, from my sugar rocket days. Cheap as well.

lots of heat, it`ll break down into oxygen and Potassium Nitrite :)

lol. Yeah you're dead right, I dont know why I didnt think about it, I mean thats why its burns so well with sugar, Duh'. (well its the sugar burning, thats just helping)

Brain glitch.

Thanks, :)

ahh, didnt see 2nd page, someone deleted this post, ooops

graphite rods are noramlly best' date=' pencil is one way of doing it, but proper graphite rods 1 or 2cm in diameter are best [for water anyway'] as it can vary with the substance.

If you plan on doing this for any amount of time you really need some platinum wire. The surface area of the electrode also makes a BIG difference.

why platinum wires, i thought [for water anyway] that graphite was best.

That's what I thought too... But when I was trying to make tons of Potassium Hydroxide I left it on overnight one of the electrodes completely reacted...

I'm not sure why platinum but I have read that it’s completely inert in electrolysis and I know they use them in those little glass electrolysis machine things.

I've missed something here' date=' how do u make h2o2?

lol. [/quote']

Huh? Apparently I missed something too. The H2O2 is in another thread and I wasn’t making it I was only purifying it.

:D

Edit: oh wait H2O2 was in this thread... If you mix it with MnO2 it makes pure oxygen.

I knew about that page, but I haven't found pyr. graphite at any other site. :<

is about levitating pyr graphite

Pyrolytic graphite is a synthetic material, made by a process called chemical vapor deposition. paragraph();

To make pyrolytic graphite, methane gas at low pressure (about 1 Torr) is heated to 2000 degrees Celsius. Very slowly, (one thousandth of an inch per hour) a layer of graphite grows

is the magasine, it mentions buying magnets [at the top] and says its good for the pyro graphite experiment, but indeed doesnt mention how you can obtain some.

They sell it

if you say so, maybe they used to sell it, but i cant see it anywhere!

ummm... Its the last item on the last link...

damn that, i looked at all of those items, including that, i saw the pen-knife and read the description, being interested in obtaining a cool knife :D i guessed it never really clicked in my head what i was reading!!!!!! :D:)

You can make ozone very easily with a neon sign transformer. Just get two pieces of glass with aluminum on the outside with a gap of air on the inside.
