Any way to make foams like polyurethane, polyestyrene ?

Checking prices of the stuff, they are absolutely absurd.:eek:

If a couple of cubic metres are needed, it's bankruptcy, and its only about 30 Kg. of material :mad:

 

Can something similar be made in a backyard ?, does not need to be a superb product, just similar to that extremely light white packing material we all know, polyestyrene foam.

Some engineers with whom I work used to package parts for shipping by placing them inside a box, then placing a large black trash bag over them and spraying a can or two of "Great Stuff" expanding foam insulation into the inside of the bag. It would then expand around the parts far better than any other packaging material.
