Sneezing

I understand how looking at a bright light can help bring a sneeze on, but how does slapping your thigh stop a sneeze?
I'm from Colorado and in the old west "slapping thigh" meant you're going for your gun. Maybe it scares the sneeze out of you,

Probably works for hiccups too. ;)

Seriously, I've never heard of this and I can't imagine the bodily mechanism. Would any sharp pain do the same thing or does it have to be your thigh? Perhaps this is a form of acupressure?

as a hayfever sufferer i can definitively say that slapping your thigh(or any other part of your body) does NOT stop a sneeze.

Well it stops my sneezes, when I remember to do it.

This is something I heard once, don't remember where but it does work for me. So I now know it doesn't work for everyone, although I assumed it did.

Are you sore now? :D

I know exactly how you feel...i'm doing okay for now but once the end of April comes i'll be miserable. Sneezing, watering/itchy eyes. :-( At least this year I'm not expecting, last year I was pregnant so i couldn't take very much and my allergies were the worst they've ever been. People who knew what I was going through just chuckled when they looked at me with my flame-red eyes and runny nose...i looked pretty pitiful. :embarass:
