Platinum or White Gold

Featured Replies

You guys did a fantastic job in answering my last question, so I did't hesitate to ask another one here.

Which metal is harder? Platinum or White Gold

I know that white gold is coated with Rhodium once a year, is Rhodium stronger than Platinum?

Thanks in advance!

Where's that one table of elements thingy when you need it?

OH OH!

If I recall correctly platinum is harder than white gold. White gold is actually regular gold mixed with some white metals. Thats why white gold needs to be coated anually, and platinum doesn't need to be.

yup

white gold is indeed harder than platinum

harder, more brittle, less ductile, White Gold (a false term) wins the day :)

Why is it a false term? It's gold, it's white, it's what people call it.

The only natural occuring white gold is called welsh gold. Because it's made of leeks, apparently.

It is actually gold, just an alloy. If we bring Socrates argument in here, at what point does it stop being gold? 1% impurity? 2%, 3%? Which carrat of gold is actually gold, and what is the rest classifed as?

To put it another way :- Your not actually YT2095. I'm not really a very, very small monkey. We are just adopting those names. White Gold is called White Gold because it is, not because of what it is.

at which point I`ll step out of this arg, as I flatly refuse to debate semantics!

no offence :)

I donno, you always looked like a tiny monkey to me...
