Detecting Echoes in Gravitational Waves

If other theories are correct and gravitational waves produce echoes that are too small to detect at the moment, would it be possible to build an array of exited particles. When they naturally drop to a lower energy state they releases a photon, but as a gravity wave passes it alters or warps the quantum electromagnetic field surrounding the atom altering the light emitted and creating "sidebands" in the atomic light spectrum. If this splits the expected colour signature of the light emitted by the atom into a unique pattern of composite light frequencies, then would the main wave and echoes produce unique signatures which might be distinguishable, and time linked as the wave and echoes pass through the array thus provide the data to confirm they exist?
