Hello.

When preparing a fermentation mash to produce/distill ethanol, is the yeast just acting doing its pissing and farting or also reproducing ?

Yeast can also reproduce during the fermentation or anaerobic stage, but they reproduce much more intensively in the presence of oxygen because of the added energy stores available for their metabolic needs.https://www.morebeer.com/articles/lifeofayeast

When the yeast is added to the wort there are around 3 billion yeast cells per liter after 2 days there are about 35 billion yeast cells per liter.

Last I checked, they reproduce by budding.

That is correct.  I'm not sure how the method that yeast use to reproduce is related to the OP.
