Can anyone define please what atom means?

It is the smallest possible amount of an element.  The nucleus or center of an atom is made of protons and neutrons surrounded by electrons.  The number of protons in the nucleus defines what element the atom is.

An Atom is the smallest part of any element, that can exist in a free state.
