Portable Electric Freezer Bag

Featured Replies

Hello, I'm John.  This is my first time here. I wanted to get like a 12 can cooler bag and make it with a battery pack so that it is cooled by a compressor or something. I was wondering if you guys knew something that is small enough to fit inside the cooler bag and still leaves room for things.

The amount of energy requiered to cool or keep from heat gain your twelve pack may need to haul an automobile battery and a compressor with corresponding evaporator and condenser coils, if not inefficient Peltier cells.

The commercial Peltier units are way more bulkier than a twelve pack in a bag,

So you are left with chemical freeze packs as an option:

Which are 'recharged' at the home freezer and taken inside your thermal bag.

Thank You for you help!

I saw the peltier unit and w i was wondering if i could detach the unit from the lid and put it in my bag and somehow attach it to a battery no matter how big>

Nope. The Peltier heat pump module cools on one side and gets hot on the other.  Inside a bag with no air circulation would be just consuming energy and warming everything.  Note the commercial units ('cooler' boxes) have a fan/vent to cool/dissipate the hot side, absolutely necessary.  And will also need to haul a car battery for it.

Last resource, dry ice in your bag.

RoadPro model RP12SB  Not to advertise the product, but my wife bought one several years ago-- just the size to hold a 12 pack and plugs into the 12 volt car outlet-- keeps everything cold just fine.

What voltage does the Peltier unit use?

That depends on particular one Peltier of your choice. Typically 12 V. If you're using batteries you need to use stabilizer ("boost","step-up") (aka "voltage regulator").

What about this if I get a bigger bag

That's monster. It's at least 12 cm x 12 cm x 20 cm looking by size of computer fan..

12 Volts * 10 A = 120 Watts. You will have to dissipate it somehow.
