No more latest Window System instead of WinXP?

Featured Replies

WinXp has come out since 2001, and I still have not seen any latest system coming out. When are we going to see Win2005, Win2006......?

december 2006, according to aerternus' link.

Pfft, why not say 2010? It certainly sounds worse than 2008.

it *should* be out autum 2006, well that's the last thing ms has said.

BUT the majority of the interesting things which where to be part of longhorn (winfs etc...) have now been removed and put back for the version of windows after this.

The two most interesting things in longhorn which are avalon and indigo are both being backported to windows XP..

So why upgrade?

So why upgrade?

Probably because you won't have much choice :P. They'll remove support for Windows XP at some point, they'll release more and more patches for Longhorn, ensure that most of the newest features etc are things you can't live without so that you have to shell out for it :P

Hehe, thats my guess anyways.

As far as I can tell, MS should just wait until everything they said in Longhorn will be ready. Stripping out WinFS et al basically means that we're going to get nothing but a glorified XP with a compositor and some long-overdue graphics overhauls. There just seems to be no point upgrading, as Klay said.
