Have "War of the currents" ended forever?

Featured Replies

What are the main reasons centralized electric networks use alternative currents aside the fact AC/AC transformers are cheap and is it guarantied we will never switch to DC in distributed electric systems? Can we design a bipolar DC outlet? What about DC/DC converter prospects?

Once the infrastructure is in place it's hard to replace it. When it was first installed, there was no easy way to step up the voltage of the DC lines to give high-efficiency transmission. With AC that's trivial.

Still, I want to discuss all advantages and disadvantages of DC current transfer more in detail. What are all the weak points of this technology?
