Evaporation in vacuum?

Featured Replies

Do I need to add a heating device inside vacuum chamber in order to accomplish evaporation or just put the chemical mixture inside. I noticed water and milk will boil, nitrogen will freezes but when they asked me to evaporate in vacuum this mean adding fire or heat?

In a vacuum the temperature at which substances boil or become liquid decreases. Nitrogen will evaporate more rapidly than normal and this will have a cooling effect on the remaining nitrogen causing freezing.

Maybe they asked for "distillation at lower pressure" aka "vacuum distillation".. ?

It's done with vacuum pump plugged to vacuum flask. And vacuum flask is typically heated from the bottom.
