  1. Are these to do with consciousness? I believe there is no consciousness consensus currently; although, I think there is consensus it occurs in the cortex, and that many parts of the brain send signals to the cortex. I am not able to answer your question.

  2. Elaborate what is meant by "business". A specific corporation focused on a particular technology? The broad market for that technology? Or the continuity of mega corporations in general?

Not a specific corporation. Vague on purpose to allow people freedom. Definitely mega corporations are included, but business also refers industries such as manufacturing. The links are the tip of the iceberg, one might also consider what the AI singularity will mean for businesses, for example.

No there isn't. But it wasn't broken up by competition. There was almost no competition until after it was broken up.

True, significant long distance competition started after AT&T was split into baby bells and the long distance company. Maybe I did not state that clearly before.

  3. Much brain research has been and is being done. Moreover, some people contend the research is incorrect on spiritual grounds. Here are some scientific videos. If you want spiritual reasons you will have to do the research...or someone else here may provide.

  4. Competition is a driving force for businesses. For example, AT&T was once almost the only telephone company, and telephone costs were high, especially long distance. In 1984 AT&T was broken up into several "baby bells" and the long distance firm named AT&T. Then other long distance companies began competing with AT&T, the price of long distance dropped to $0/min, and AT&T was purchased by the baby bell named Southwestern Bell, which renamed itself AT&T.

Competition destroyed a portion of the telephone business Of course, cell phones became a new telephone business.

Another development, the Open Hardware initiative, may also threaten business.

Will mega businesses become obsolete and eventually fail?

    I think it is probable.

  5. You post is too much for me, being a bit dyslexic. I read the first bit about electric pumps. I am not a rocket scientist, but I expect that a turbine would be lighter weight and more capable of withstanding high-g and extreme temperatures than an electric motor. Thus, I suspect pumps that inject liquid fuel and oxidizer into a rocket engine are not electric. Maybe someone here is a rocket scientist and knows

  6. IMO

Our fast food, processed food, and lack of exercise has made us less healthy than our recent ancestors, as evinced by epidemics of diabetes, heart disease, and obesity. In particular plaque within our veins, arteries, and capillaries reduces blood flow to all parts of our body, including our brain. Our brains consume up to 25% of the energy we eat, which is delivered via the blood. Reduced blood flow must reduce brain capability, and diabetes reduces the ability of cells to use glucose (energy), which also must affect brain capability.

The healthiest of us are just as smart as we were a hundred years ago and before. Improve diet to improve brain function, especially eliminate cholesterol from your diet.

  7. Many ideas have been suppressed for a while because of dogma, throughout recorded history, for example, the flat Earth and Earth as the center of the Universe. Just how many people have been killed and imprisoned because they discovered something that contradicted societal beliefs? What changes have society accepted without objection? Why are some things accepted and others are not?

Culture shock and future shock are probably relevant issues.

IMO the flight or fight response is relevant.

  8. Just remember; if someone is mad at you, nothing ticks them off worse than being super polite to them.

That scenario presents a dilemma. I believe making someone angry is harmful, and should be avoided. Unfortunately, I am an engineering type, similar to autistic, and miss interpersonal clues. Is it better to say nothing and make them madder or continue being polite and make them madder.

    ^ For what benefit?

My Freudian ego enjoys winning debates, I must admit. Although, I believe such victories are hallow when someone else is embarrassed or otherwise emotionally harmed. Were I a Flagellant, my back would be covered with scars.

  9. ^ For what benefit?

LOL to keep from insulting people.

I do believe in being kind and to not harm anyone, as Buddhist do. Although, I have no qualm about killing flies, mosquitoes, spiders, etc. that carry disease or venom. Nor would I expect anyone to starve themselves to avoid killing for food.

  10. A pencil with its graphite core can leave a conductive mark, but the graphite deposit appears to be discontinuous. Thus, getting a long conductive mark may be difficult. It is easy to try and inexpensive.

  11. From the page you selected, "And in fact, when the children were placed in foster homes, they immediately began to gain weight - while still maintaining vegan diets."
