  1. lithium carbide, i believe is whats used as an anti-depressant...correct me if i'm wrong...i could look it up, but im tired, and i have finals tomorrow.
  2. i will be testing a J class EX motor with much abundance of Mg shards in it...should make for one hell of a spark show.
  3. also, you can't say come to fight us, because you're in canada...
  4. also, you completely just contradicted yourself.... "nobody wants war, but sometimes it's the only way to defend yourself." this quote shows that you're agreeing with me that war is a last resort, and only necessary when you need to defend yourself. however..... "only the stronger nations have the rights to live. the weaker ones, they will disappear sooner or later." it doesnt really matter does it, because you believe in natural sele.....oops, no you dont...you said only the stronger nations have the RIGHTS to live?? well, who are you? are you the governing counsil of the world? do you dictate which countries have rights? that was a pretty arrogant and unintelligent comment, but there's more to your contradiction. "no matter where u come from, come to fight us. i mean to wage a war." now lets put that and your first quote together....we can see that you're a contradiction machine, and you really have no idea as to what you're talking about. history is to be learned from, not duplicated. if you stay in the past, there is no future for you or your country. also, there is no country on earth with the military capabilities of the US, i'd say if china wanted a fight, then the US would be happy to oblige. so would bush, it would take the focus off of all the stupidity in iraq.
  5. of course he doesnt want to be free...he's a commy. his government tells him exactly what to do and he humbly agrees, because its the honorable thing to do. he doesnt want to be dis honored. look, "waging war" is a last resort. but obviously you chinese people dont see it that way. and i must admit, that my current government isnt exactly in that mindset either, however, i can already tell that you're an irresponsible person, simply because you think that if someone disagrees with you, you have to wage war with them...well check this out. japan already tried it with us, and look what happened to them...we were minding our business when they bombed us, and then they got blown to hell, would you like that for your country? i hardly think america is a country that you would look forward to "waging war" with. in fact, i bet you'd flea in the face of attack. only cowards go looking for war. especially for no reason.
  6. Some people who haven't read the fine print think the law allows them to shoot anyone trying to enter their home without permission. This is not the case. As a rule, the law still demands some action to have taken place to cause the armed defender to reasonably perceive immediate physical danger before pulling a trigger is authorized. As any bodyguard (or "executive protection specialist") can tell you, the best fight is the one that's prevented. Shooting it out with the intruder is a last-ditch option, an act of grave desperation that should be avoided if reasonably possible. Every gun owner concerned with home security should practice what those executive protection specialists call "target denial," a series of strategies that thwart the intruders before they ever come close enough to physically harm you or your family. The first line of physical defense of your home should be solid doors in solid frames with good locks. While deadbolt locks are superior to spring-bolt locks, you want one of each on every major door. The spring-bolt lock can be "loided," or opened with a piece of celluloid like a driver's license, a trick that won't work on a locked deadbolt. this was coppied from an article on looksmart.com (yeah yeah yeah....i did it to look smart.) though this is a general overview, and never actually states the law, which IS in the fine print when you apply for a gun permit(which some states dont require, so a lot of people aren't aware of this), it states the fact, that you can't just blaze your gun away like you're in the old west. there are certain proceedures that must be followed. this is why everyone who owns a gun must be trained....IMO.

wow, so you're saying that the little vibration of you snapping your fingers caused the calcium to react again?
  8. chadn, contrary to hollywood, you can't shoot anyone who walks into your house...but go ahead, try it some time...see you in jail...

jdurg, in my college chem class we took sodium out of oil and put it on a desk. first what happened was it started smoking, white smoke, not huge quantities, but like a cigarette. then i touched it and it was hot. after that it started sparking little flames and we poured water on it and watched the spark show. this is my experience with sodium. it definately was not rubidium, and i doubt the professor would've thrown a 100 dollar piece of cesium onto a desk to watch it explode.
  10. yes, in self defense...with the exception of a few states, every state in this fine union is a flea state, meaning, you have to make every attempt possible to escape your house without confrentation. also, you can bet your life that if the burgler is unarmed and you shoot him, then you will go to jail. now, i KNOW that you're not a gun owner are you? or perhaps you live in a state that doesnt require permits for firearms, meaning that you dont need any knowledge of the laws to purchase one. perhaps you should go look up your states firearms mandates. have fun with that. let me know if your state is a flea state.

uhh, silencer, even still, it reacts with air, and it would've created flame, just not as intensely as cesium. have you ever dealt with sodium? when you take it out of its stable atmosphere, it starts smoking after a couple seconds, then it starts flaming like a really small flare. pour water on it and it will fizzle for about a second and then BANG, and a huge flash from the hydrogen. sodium in your pocket would light you on fire.

yeah, literally, 5-10 grams would set you back 500-1000 bucks. also, that story of the kid putting it in his pocket has to be false. cesium reacts with air, and therefore it would've started burning as soon as it was taken out of a neutral atmosphere. it would've burned his skin, as it also reacts with skin, it would've lit the paper towel on fire, and it would've lit him on fire long before he reached the lunch room.
  13. YT, ok, fine, i work for mossberg....no, if someone broke into my house with a "gun" or a knife, then i would most definately grab my gun and try to avoid confrentation. if he comes upstairs with his weapon, then i would not hesitate to shoot him in the event of a confrentation. this is what they teach you when you go to get your carry permit. you must take a self defense class. however, if i was to shoot him simply because he was coming up the stairs, then i would probably go to jail.

i dont know of a high school that stores pure sodium, and especially pure potassium. unless in sealed ampoules in small quantities under vaccum or argon. the most dangerous thing we had at my HS was 30% HCl. heh. we were the type of high school doing those stupid experiments, like putting a balloon in ice water. lol. how fun.
  15. first of all, you'd be arrested, unless he assaulted you. you'd go to jail for probably 10 years, depending on the jury. this poll is circumstantial. if someone broke into my house with a mossberg shotgun, then it would be a lot different if someone broke into my house with nothing but a pair of gloves. if someone pulls out a mossberg, im first going to grab MY mossberg, then im going to gather my family together in one room close to the stairway. if he attempts to come upstairs, i'll pump the action just to let him know there are 12 gauges up there and they're all waiting for him. if he proceeds with more caution, then i will wait until he either opens the door to the room, in which case i would blow him away. or until he goes wround the corner, in which case i would sneak up behind him and either whack him off the head with something solid, or put the muzzle to his head and tell him to drop it. if he breaks in with gloves, just scare him. point the gun at him, thats enough. dont forget to call 911 immediately. especially if you do shoot him.

i read a story somewhere of someone keeping a rocket motor in their pocket. like, a high power rocket motor. on the way to the launch site, he flicked a cigarette and some of the embers dropped through the nozzle, lighting it up, blowing half his skin off his side and burning down his car. ahh, the stupid things people do.

or they read totse.com "how to blow stuff up" and they thought it would be cool to attempt, so they figured "where else" and came here to ask where to purchase some of the stuff. naturally, since they are not interested in the science behind the reaction, they'd rather find the fastest cheapest way to acquire it to fill that urge to go out and blow stuff up. ahh, the feeling you get when you impress your friends with that gunpowder. except, most people wouldnt know to ball mill it, and as a result they would end up with a powder that would fizzle and make a lot of smoke...really impressive if i say so myself. then they will become enfatuated with trying to make KNO3 explode, so they will go back to totse and find more information, because again, they are not interested in the science of the reaction, they are interested in blowing things up. and with that, they discover perchlorates. ahh, so they log on with their dads credit card and order up a lb of potassium perchlorate, ammonium perchlorate...whatever...they say hey, what do they use in M80's, and then they go out and grab a big bag of aluminum powder...this is a really bad idea...but this is where headlines are made. they take the aluminum powder and a ratio that they have FOUND online, without doing any further research, and they make say 10 grams of explosive materials that will be set off by shock, static, or a googly eyed look from the wrong person. now they figure, ahh, my last stuff sucked, so this can't be that much more violent. they hold a match to it and BANG, no more fingers. ahh how impressive. and this is why we have scientists. thank you, i am done.

there are other, superior, oxidisers. nitrates give a bland effect. they make decent rocket fuel...ammonium perchlorate is where the real potential is. why, might i ask, are you interested in obtaining KNO3?
  19. "I'm looking for a way to calculate the optimum angle of attack for the blade of a monocopter. It seems there has to be a stall speed and hover speed, somewhere in between is the optimum. Firstly, if there are any RC folks out there, I'm guessing there is a formula which will give a lift number to a laminar flow airfoil. This number would probably have to have adjustment based on wing length versus width (as an airfoil can have a similar square area, though one could be twice as long and as thin as another). Secondly, all the factors would have to be involved which include (and I may leave something out) Dry weight Loaded weight Cd (probably a constant for the most part) Square area of the wing Length of the wing Maximum thrust spike Minimum thrust And from this could revolution be calculated? If Prof Graham's book has it hidden in the mix and I've missed it I'd appreciate a lesson." this was taken from a different forum, but i was also interested, so i posted it here to see if there was any input. thanks for any responses.
  20. it hurt bush a lot more than it helped him, as did howard stern going on his whole rant. i think it just shows what a sad state this country is in. nobody knows a thing about whats going on. probably about 12% of people who voted ACTUALLY knew what is going on in the world. which is a sad thing

  22. in the US, you need a LEUP to posess a certain amount of low explosives...64 grams i believe. but, the manufacture of low explosives without a manufacturing license and several permits from the fire marshal of your state is i would assume, illegal.
