  1. Think what you like, the model where electrons actually orbit around a nucleus is simply wrong. Quantum, incidentally, simply means quantized (see what I did there?) packets of energy that affect stuff. For example: only a photon of a certain wavelength can create a polaron in a certain area in a photoactive material. It's like an organ pipe which resonates at certain frequencies and only at those frequencies.
  2. I cannot see H3 exist in any form. The elektrons of each H in H2 are already used to make the bond between them (a bonding orbital), leaving only an anti-bonding orbital. So even if a hydride (H-, thus with a fully filled 1s orbital, as you would need to get elektrons from somewhere) would interact with H2, the bond formed with either or both H2 hydrogens would end up in the anti-bonding orbital and thus be unstable (as in that it would exist for a neligible amount of time, not that the stuff would explode or be otherwise beneficial energy wise).
  3. At some point, you and the wind will have the same horizontal velocity, and as such you will be falling straight down again. Even on a wind still day, the air is still moving due to the earth rotating, pulling the air with it. This is nothing different.
  4. It's still only the force you manually put in there. You could be turning a crank with your hands and it would be WAY more efficient. We are still waiting for your kinetic calculations btw.

  6. Show us what you get directly after separation of variables.
  7. One of the more counterintuitive examples of this would be a donut. No matter its 3d shape, as long as the length of the circumference of the center line in the donut matches the one of a straight cylinder with equal diameter of that of the donut, its volume will be the same.
  8. Because ion engines in contrast to things like turbojets/fans don't use the atmosphere they move in for propulsion and thus gain nothing from the velocity difference of the outside air with regards to the engine. Ion engines, but also liquid fuel/oxidizer rockets thus solely depend on the exhaust velocity of their propellant to reach their Isp, which in atmosphere is a whole lot lower than in the vacuum of space. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Specific_impulse Also: kerbal space program (I hate to commercialize this game in this fashion, but it has the potential to teach a lot about orbital mechanics, but also things like thrust and specific impulse, which due to the nature of this question can provide quite a lot of insight).

    dark.

I kinda get where you are heading with this. If the sun, for some reason, would stop emitting emr in the visual spectrum, but still emitted UV and IR wavelengths, everything would be dark to us, but there would still be emr, just with a frequency gap in it.
  10. No-one will be denying that last sentence of course: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radiation_pressure Read the second paragraph and see how influential that force can be.
  11. And for a homogeneous cube (the density is equal in every part of the cube) the CoM happens to be at the precise central point.
  12. Yes his density is higher that that of normal water, but not too much as he is still able to float somewhat (think of air in his lungs that keep him afloat). So would a liquid need to have a higher, equal, or lower density that that of water to allow him to float comfortably?
  13. The axle has a certain thickness thus you are putting a force on its outside. Slight offset = not going exactly through the CoM
  14. You cannot add a rotational force to the exact center of a circle.
  15. Inb4 my science field is the best because I work in it-war.
  16. Light is not transparent. Transparency is a property of something with mass. Since photons are massless, they cannot by definition be transparent.
  17. I wouldn't call it potential energy (as that is defined as Ep = m*g*h), but internal energy. This energy is present in liquid water of 0°C and has to be removed to form ice of 0°C. Same for all other phase transitions.
  18. Keep in mind that white is not a color, but rather the entire visible EM spectrum. Likewise, black is not a color either, but the absense of any frequency in the visible spectrum.
  19. The velocity only changes because atmospheric drag acts on it. Not because of gravity. In a frictionless environment, the arrow would fly forever as there are no counteracting forces working on it. If you will not understand such a simple fact, you can start topics and model and speculate all you want, but there won't be a point in doing so. Note that I am not forbidding you to do whatever you like, that's not in my power nor in my nature, but in my opinion you should first understand a system and its current theories before you start discussing them.
  20. When you throw a ball, you give it an initial velocity, yes, and then no more force is applied horizontally.YES Therefore it carries on at the same speed horizontally. NO <-- YES
  21. The curve forms because the stone accelerates towards the ground. It doesn't start at the same vertical velocity as when it hits the ground. Contrarily, once the stone leaves my hand when on the moon, it WILL travel at the same velocity horizontally until impact as when it left my hand. The stone WILL, however, immediately start falling towards the ground when I release it. The horizontal component of the force applied has 0 effect on the vertical compound of the force.
