  1. The question is simple . I will take into account answers that have been placed here and rephrase . The piece of chalk is moving relative to the blackboard . Is the eye-witness testimony of 350 people , 100% proof that motion has taken place ?
  2. Klaynos , Are you possibly making a mistake ? Definition of Motion will be the movement meaning from one place to another .
  3. Go into a lecture hall with 350 people there and watch a professor moving a piece of chalk across a blackboard to describe his latest wonder . There are 350 witnesses to the motion . Is the testimony of these 350 people enough to make the motion 100% proven ?
  4. Is somebody going to tell us about that ' weird thing ' they saw ?
  5. StringJunky , I'll give you an example , If I stand in the middle of the traffic lane on the road at 3 P.M. in the afternoon , scientists can say all they like about a 99% confidence level or a 99% probability that a car will crash into me within 1 hour . That does not mean it will happen . The standards of proof should be at 100% . It has been mathmatically shown to me why 99.9999................ % would be acceptable as being 100% . Nobody cares what I think , StringJunky , but this is what I think , below 100% is unproven theory , 100% is fact .
  6. Xittenn , there is a first time for everything . Hi , I don't know what these terms mean and if you don't want to explain , don't . The expression you use may be slang . I thought that it might be American , if you say it is in common use I'll find it's meaning somewhere quite easily .
  7. Dr.Rocket , I like that as a proof , It looks like art that must be wondered about .
  8. Xittenn , some terms may be used in one country and not in another . Can I bother you for a meaning of ' Bottom out ' and ' Bottomed ' ?
  9. I don't think screwed is defined in engineering terms . There is no known ' solution ' because I don't know what happened to it . Compression ? , Tension ? , Torque ? , Karate Chop ? ...............
  10. I assure you mooeypoo that my questions have a point . Try to prove and disprove as much as you can on your own methods .
  11. Mooeypoo , sidenote , if I have a page in front of me for 10 mins it won't update if other people post . When I post it could go after a post I do not see on my screen . So , they are not in order ! I understand the line of thought on reproducible actions and observations . I just think that nobody is willing to say that ' evidence ' of weird things is ' things that were seen ' . People say there is no evidence , what are sightings ?
  12. Swansont , apologies , typo! For those who don't know what's going on , we are arguing over the meaning of the word theory ! Read the thread sometime ! I say , theory is unproven , others say theory is fact . I also say propositions are unproven .
  13. Scientific theory is not scientific fact . That is why it is called theory . A proposition is an unproven theory which may or may not result in being proven ! Swansont , My computer is a piece of Shit , the binary logic that it uses is a mess of idea's that people trying to learn it can't understand , and you know that . My original idea didn't start in this thread , moderators have stopped me continuing my original conversation with the assistance of , have a guess who ! I have a theory that I will shortly have a nice cup of tea . I have no foundation supporting evidence for that , possibly a thought , but I can't prove it !
  14. Posts are a bit intermingled here ! They are not in order ! Sight as a form of proof is used a lot in science . Example from a report : I filled the test tube with 100mL of nitric acid . I read the temperature from a thermometer . This relies on me seeing it being done and people will say , if it was seen being done , it happened . Can I just say , I , being scientific , god help me , would like to think that sightings of ghosts can be explained somehow !
  15. And Swansont , Is the theory of relativity proven ?
  16. Okay , mooeypoo , Seeing something happening is a form of proof , used all the time . People say , I saw such and such happening and that is taken to be proof . Especially when more than 1 person sees whatever it may be . My point is , if a person or two people then ' see ' something undefined , is that proof of something happening ?
  17. But , the point I would be trying to make is , Are we going to accept sight as a form of proof ?
  18. Could you try to disprove yourself as vigorously as possible ?
  19. Mooeypoo , scratch your nose , Did you see your finger doing it ? . Scientifically , are you a reliable witness to the fact your finger scratched your nose ?
  20. Do you know somebody who can ?
  21. If a person sees a person commiting a robbery that is evidence of a robbery . If a person sees 2 old people at night-time standing in a room and with a turn of the face they are gone , is that evidence ?
  22. I see the math Cap'n and it's like a magic trick in front of my eyes . Don't confuse what I say with disagreement . Ask yourself this Cap'n , Could you show us that , 2.99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 recurring < 3 if you wanted to ?
