    Time travel

Ok, here's a story. I travel back in time with a wireless camera hooked up to me. My friend is monitoring me with the camera from a computer. I go back 20 minutes to the past to San Francisco, a 20 minute walk from my house. a) What would the camera see? b) Would the camera even work? c) Can you even go back in time? d) Would time be skewed?
  2. you keep on using this pattern 8 1 6 3 5 7 4 9 2 which makes it impossible to make 55 with whole numbers. if it is possible to make another magic square that adds up to 1 without the pattern 2ndhigh lowest 4thhighest 3rdlowest middle 3rdhighest 4thlowest highest 2ndhighest hey that's pretty neat looking at it with words instead of numbers. anyways, if you can make a magic square that adds to 1 without using the 8 1 6 3 5 7 4 9 2 pattern, you offset every number by 18 and that gives you 55. I'm not familiar with magic squares, but if there's only one specific type of square that generates a specific number, then it would be impossible. to neurocomp: "Thus all four are of the form x a (1-x-a) = 1...let us choose x,y,z,w to represent each of..." are you adding or multiplying?
  3. I read somewhere that if we were to accelerate to the speed of light, our mass would be infinite. Is it true? What's that supposed to mean?
  4. http://www09.ksc.nasa.gov/mirrors/stsci//hubbledev/db/2004/07/images/n/formats/full_jpg.jpg did the picture screw up? there's like another picture behind it or something when i maximize the picture
  5. If we just mutate when we feel like it, does that mean that if i continually sky dive, and my children sky dive, and their children sky dive, one day, our family will have bones fragile enough to lift off and fly?
  6. how do you tell if a species evolves?

  9. Oh the monkey named Oliver! I remember that monkey. Smart as heck and could walk upright. But then he started attacking someone or something and is now a nobody.
  10. I believe interspecies mating is possible. I saw an animal planet documentary where hmm i forget, two horse-like animals mated and a hybrid was born. I forget what two species.
  11. I'm thinking the one with the smaller area is very, very long and not very wide. The one with the greater area looks more like a circle, even though sides are uneven.

    Exponents

    Yup, I know that, but is 4^0.5 = +/-2?
  13. Something fun to think about. The second theory about big bang happening after another universe collapse. Maybe the last universe was expanding so much that heavier elements were falling apart and there wouldn't be anything left except electrons and quarks after a couple million more years of expansion. So some intelligient life collapsed their universe in order to make another universe. Kind of like reincarnation.

Ah man, the pictures don't show up. They are boxes with the red x in them, can you show me it without pictures? I once got replies of the square root of 4 equalling +/- 2. So the square root of four isn't -2? I get that if x^2 = 4, x = +/- 2. But I'm wondering if an expression sqroot 4 = +/- 2

    Oh yeah, that makes sense. But now this doesn't make sense. If 4^(1/2) = +/- 2 Then 8^(1/3) = +/- 2 too? 8^(1/3) = (8^(2/3))^(1/2) But if -2 is a root of 8^(1/3), then why doesn't -2^3 = 8? Or maybe -2^3 = 8? Also look at this: 2^2 = 2^(4 x 1/2) = etc. etc. and that means 2^2 = +/- 4.
  16. talk about timing. 6 minutes off from steve's theory
  17. Speaking of black holes and big bang, they are both referring to singularities, right? I'm no cosmologist, but what if there are infinitely many universes. Our universe expands, but is inside a singularity. To something outside the singularity, nothing escapes. To something inside the singularity, it's impossible to reach the edge. So there are two forces acting against each other. Things outside the singularity collapses into it while things already inside it expands outward. When the force expanding the universe inside the singularity is more than the force pushing inward, two universes exist together in the same dimension. To the universe that contained the singularity, chaos occurs. Nothing will happen to the universe that was expanding in the singularity. Kind of like a tumor.
  18. In 8th grade, we studied plate tectonics, heat convection, and continental drift in the same chapter of the geology book. It talked about earth changing poles and not having poles before in the last chapter. If I recall correctly, it has something to do with the change in rotations of the cores. I think the outer core moves one way while the inner core moves the other way. Or maybe the inner core doesn't spin at all? I don't remember.
  19. fafalone you said something about using heroine to reduce pain. it reminds me of something i overheard from some classmates. they were talking to each other about breaking their legs on purpose so they could get medical marijuana. it's pretty sad. everyone makes the choice to do heroine, i think (except in the rare case that someone threatens to kill you if you don't, so you do it). the guys who did drugs did drugs together, knew drug dealers, and their parents did drugs. i guess you could view this either way. you can say that it's not their fault, that they were in a society where drugs were steadily available. but then again, they didn't have to take those drugs. you could also say, nevermind.
  20. Do you think Mercury's surface is made of gold? Like the closer you are to the sun, the heavier the elements?
