  1. If you imagine a vertical line dividing your face into two halves then the two halves will, in almost every case, be unbalanced to some extent. You can get some idea of this by holding a sheet of card that covers half your face and looking in a mirror then repeating with the other side of your face. This why you always feel that there is something "strange" about photos of your face.

That is simply illusion. Mirrors form perfect images unless they are imperfectly constructed.

  2. Well, because it is mostly nonsense. What may happen is that gases form in decaying bodies due to bacterial activities (mostly it is simply CO2). Lysosomes (which are organelles of eukaryotes, i.e. sub-cellular entities of your body) do not do that.

    Here

I read it in a newspaper, though. But for you I dig the internet a bit.

  3. Ophiolite , I could handle a system like this

You could but some religions won't allow you to do it. They might war over it. Many religions have been moving on the basic idea that noon is at 12 and midnight at 12. Even those tribal who use sundials would find it difficult to co-up with time of different kabilas.

  4. There you are , sitting in Greenwich , England , mid summers day , on the zero longitude line , sun appears exactly south , set the clock to read midday .

So, do you want all clocks to have the time which Greenwich has or do you want them to set their time as the sun appears south?

  5. Well , I suppose , if the worldwide clock had to have a time on it , it could be set at midday when the sun is south on the line of longitude going through Greenwich on mid summers day .

    I couldn't get you.

  6. No. it won't. Having one time, which I suppose you mean by GMT, would cause inconveniences. Like, sunrise would be at 1am and sunset at 4pm. This would result in lost meaning of day and night, noon and midnight.

  7. Im sure this is a simple calculation but ! An object weighing 300 kg is dropped off a ledge 6 m high ! how fast would it be travelling when it hits the ground ?

i realize weight at this point is not too much of a issue but when i get an answer to this , i weight will be for my next question!

    Thanks in advance !

    Here,

You should not consider the weight of object as every object has same acceleration on 9.8m/S2 .

Look, the object is dropped with zero initial velocity. And the final velocity would be, say=u, since we have to calculate it. Now you know the acceleration which is constant for every object falling freely. Note that you have to consider air resistance as zero unless you are ready to do more complex calculations and you want the precise and striking exact speed. But, that would be a mess since you would have to measure air speed, atmospheric pressure etc.

Now, back to problem. You now have three quantities. Let us add one more. We know the height=6m.

Now it is simplified. Use the equation of motion. Which one? I bet you know that!

  8. Heard that dead bodies explode? The explosion is due to the decay of dead cells. When the decay is prolonged and complete, before the body is burnt or buried, it tends to burst due to action of lysosomes. Therefore, the action of lysosome on a single cell, can be understood from this explanation.

  9. He is using evolution as a headline for the debate.

But didn't you suspect that he wants to debate over existence of God.

Actually, craqzynutsx, I believe that evolution is wrong at certain points. I believe that it can't start on its own. Also, it is not completely discovered by us. Remember what Darwin's son said. He said that no matter how much have we studied about evolution, but it is still a mystery.

But I keep my belief with myself. I agree with some points of this theory.

If you have to do devotion. you have to follow a science. Body do devotion and this is to be maintained. Science is not completely wrong, neither is evolution.

You are asking a proof with which it can be demonstrated. Well, there are things which can't be proved on just visual basis. You can't prove your dad on visual-basis. And you can't demonstrate that you were born out of him. Only you can use someone as witness who saw your birth. But since, evolution took million of years, you can't have a spectator for the event.

  10. I thought about that too, like the "Drinking Bird" but if you notice, the candle isn't entirely balanced to begin with... not sure how much wax it loses. Also, at some point it rotates almost all the way through.

My coworker here suggests that the flame that's slightly higher is all-exposed, so it heats the air above it and creates negative pressure layer. The flame that's lower is partially hidden by wax, so there's LESS heated air and hence lesser pressure, and so the candle rotates.

    That might be ...

I somehow agree with him. It seems a fit-able explanation.

And about the complete rotation of the candle, it would occur after sometime. IN 'sometime' period, a lot of less pressure area is created above the apparatus. This would result in a lot of air-flow from down to top, resulting in complete conversion.

But, it won't be the first step. I would happen after some semi circular movements are done.

This could be tested by taking a candle (of small thickness as shown in video ) and applying molten wax on both sides. The molten wax should form a box type formation on the end. Now, before planting more wax, you should thicken the wick by attaching thicker cotton threads.

Now, set the apparatus. If it shows complete cycle early as compared to other candle. Then, our idea would be correct.

  11. The drift velocity of electrons is very small, approximately 1 mm/s. Then why light turns on instantly when switch is pressed? Is is due to the fact that electrons transfer energy to one another and thus conduct electricity without physically moving from one point to other?

  12. But I thought that growth rates in India and China were 6% and 8% respectively. I have an option to invest in either or both countries, so I thought both would be the best option. Are you suggesting that India is not a good place to invest?

If you want to invest, invest in property there. The prices of property are sky-rocketing. And after an year you might have even double. But for it, you have to spend money.

  13. China is already a superpower.

    And India is not.

India is suffering from corruption and poverty. The poverty-cycle here is complex. Despite measures, the country is not growing at desirable rates. And as far as goods are concerned, labour in India is not that cheap. It is cheap in China.

But still, both these nations have a strong military.

  14. And if it sinks. then? If any danger occors? If it gets stuck in a cyclone? If it's wreck causes distress?

Death of million of fish. Many toads would loose their family. Jellyfish would cry.

    Makes me senti-mental.
