  1. Being bright is not essential, no replacement for hours spent reading. Make a few notes if you think it is getting too heavy. "The Bible unearthed" Israel Finkelstein and Neil Asher Silverman. This offers explanations regarding archaeology found and not found in the Bible lands. Also, "Archaeology of the Bible lands BC." Magnus Magnusson 1979.
  2. I will check but I am not sure that is correct.
  3. Yes, no serious scholar thinks Jesus was an atheist.
  4. Dimethyl sulphide is one. https://www.nasa.gov/universe/exoplanets/webb-discovers-methane-carbon-dioxide-in-atmosphere-of-k2-18-b/ "The abundance of methane and carbon dioxide, and shortage of ammonia, support the hypothesis that there may be a water ocean underneath a hydrogen-rich atmosphere in K2-18 b. These initial Webb observations also provided a possible detection of a molecule called dimethyl sulfide (DMS). On Earth, this is only produced by life. The bulk of the DMS in Earth’s atmosphere is emitted from phytoplankton in marine environments."
  5. As well as lab work recreating pre biotics conditions, Deep sea vents and asteroid/meteorite materials, there is the work being done by instruments like Webb, looking at exo planets, their atmosphere and potential life signatures.
  6. No, if Jesus did not believe in god then the whole of the NT does not make sense. No idea, seems unlikely as he would have not have had a following. They had wine and stories about it at that time, so he could have drank it if it was affordable.
  7. You could say the last 100 years if you start from 1925 when those seminal papers were being published. Also technologies on the back of that like semi Conductors, lasers and MRI scanners. Plenty on Google to search. Quantum revolution, Quantum Mechanics, "old" Quantum Theory, Planck, Einstein & Bohr, then Pauli, Heisenberg, Dirac, de Broglie and Schrödinger. Feynman.
  8. Just let them have a range of experiences, music, museums, country walks, the beach, the big city. They will ask questions and let them explore different answers because not all questions will have a straight forward answer. One of the most important questions my son asked me. "Is the Bible just stories dad?" I would have let him down greatly if I would have given him my answer, my opinion. Even if my opinion was based on scholarship by learned academics. Did I ever fail him on being open minded? Yes, music. Watching TOTPs I announced with an air of authority, "Son, this music is beyond crap." The music playing WOULD have been beyond crap for me to say that and I told him years later. He saw the funny side, "Son, it was for your own good!" He (mostly) has good taste today so I feel vindicated.
  9. This is history not science. In science we can replicate the experiment if we need to, we cannot do that with the past. History is not the past, it is building a picture of what what most likely happened in the past, based on probability. This can change depending on texts and archaeology that may be discovered. We cannot "kill" god since God is a concept, an idea, a belief, an ancient history and today's reality. God exists for people. Jesus was a pious Jew who followed Mosaic law, that was important to him if you put weight on themes from the Gospels. Put god above all others, follow the letter of the law (not leaving one iota) and treat your neighbour as yourself.
  10. This is what modern scholarship have consensus on, mainly. First century apocalyptic Jew, associated with John the Baptist, had followers, was a preacher, teacher and healer, was executed by Roman authorities. The "apocalyptic Jew" part goes with being a theist. The New Kingdom is on its way, repent and hear the good news.
  11. Huh!? That is kind of the whole point of his ministry!
  12. Down voted for saying, "thank you?" Okay.
  13. My point was that the Lords prayer is nothing to do with Genesis.
  14. 1000s of years in some cases, depends on the condition of the body and how they died. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2010/feb/17/malaria-killed-king-tutankhamun https://www.science.org/content/article/ice-man-was-killed-behind#:~:text=This%20week%2C%20almost%2010%20years,while%20on%20a%20hunting%20trip.
  15. Why don't we rec@ notification when we report?
  16. This reads like ChatGTP. Or Deepak Chopra.
  17. Ok I have found something. "The Bible. A historical and literary introduction." Bart D. Ehrman, Oxford University Press 2014. Page 37. "...males and females were created as the pinnacle of creation........created in the image of god, meaning apparently, that they unlike other creatures, are made to be very much like god. And as god exercises authority over all creation humans are to exercise authority over all creation." That supports your post rather than mine.
  18. Do you have a citation for that point? There are two accounts though, G1, males and females created together after the animals. G2, Man first, then the animals, then Eve out of a rib. Yes but the two different accounts have two different names. G1, Elohim G2, Yahweh Elohim
  19. What about mental illness? Did the science community still think was all demons till the 20thC? A gave you a solid example you can do in your own home with a prism. THIRD time, you don't need a god or a promise to produce a rainbow. A child can do this, Genesis writers did not know basic physics so made up a story. So stop lying and answer the direct question. Is Genesis wrong or not?
  20. but don't answer questions put to you which makes you dishonest. Of course that is wrong. Are you just posting ignorant nonsense now? When did Galileo publish? Any issues there? What about Darwin?
  21. It's a science platform first (the clue is is the name) There is a cross over though isn't there? If there was no conflict with science and religion then Genesis would be talking about Quantum Mechanics and Bacteria. It doesn't, the view of the Universe has zero bearing on reality and i am giving you examples which you keep ignoring. So I will ask you again. Are you rejecting science? I trust science over superstition and revelation, science works I use it every day.
  22. We are all of those things if you are at all for biology and taxonomy. If you also dismiss this area of science, I am wondering why you are on a science website at all.
