  2. Today I have been reading Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions by Edwin Abbott Things get quite weird, but in an intriguing way. And I have only touched the surface of this book. While digging around the internet, I read online in an article that Gravity would not work in a Theoretical 2D World. This got me questioning! What other Physical properties would also be different. Modern Knowledge explains that things in our universe are made of ATOMS, a particle that consists of a nucleus of protons and neutrons surrounded by a cloud of electrons. I assumed, before researching anything, that atoms themselves would be 3 Dimensional themselves, but I didn't want to leave it as an assumption, so I dug a tiny bit deeper. And my source I found is here Molecules in 3D (wisc.edu) Turns out. "Atoms arrange themselves in three-dimensional aggregates with specific molecular shapes. Factors which influence the shape of a molecule are: the number of bonds, non-bonding electrons, atomic radii, bond length among others " So now that I had found more information, it led me to my next question, and I was unable to find any other topics really related to what I wanted to ask. Question: What would a theoretical 2-Dimensional object be made of?

  4. I want to start off with saying thank you for your responses! I want to understand this as much as possible, so here is how I tried to understand it myself. Correct me if I am wrong. So, we are essentially traveling through Space-time in a straight line? But our path is curved due to the curvature of spacetime, caused by (The Sun) In this example. And gravity is a consequence caused by this Curvature? We are falling towards the sun, but we keep missing it due to the speed the earth is traveling. Does this explain gravity in space, things are actually just free falling? And not weightless as most assume?

Disclaimer: I am, not a physicist nor do I possess any knowledge or understanding of the math involved behind the answers to these questions, but I still want to learn On Earth, we’re fairly close to the Sun, at a distance of some 150 million km (93 million miles). Earth's orbit around the Sun takes 940 million km and 365.24 days, or what we call one year. Over this time, Earth notches up a speed of 108,000km/h (67,000 mph) on its journey round the Sun. <-- Thats impressive! Let's talk about Gravity for a sec, or at least a simple form of it, outside of GR, and its effect on us. Gravity is not the only source of g-forces. A living being Like you or I, whenever in a vehicle, like a car or a plane, are traveling X/Speed and we suddenly change the vehicles velocity, speed up, slow down, or make a turn, your velocity will change. The faster this happens, the more G-force you will experience. In some instances, these effects are extreme enough to cause the driver/piolet/passenger to lose consciousness or pass out. For my next few questions, I'd like to imagine the earth like a vehicle that is carrying passengers equal to the total population of earths Living Beings. Question Number one: If the Earths Orbital Speed around our sun were to suddenly Double in speed, would we feel any extreme G force from this? If not, would question number 2 hold somewhat of the answer to why. Question Number two: Does earths massive size, in comparison to a smaller vehicle such as a jet/plane, play a role in why we don't feel the same effects of G-force at these speeds being on earth like we would if we were traveling at these speeds in a much smaller vehicle. I know I have very little understanding of these concepts that's why I am asking. And I hope this was coherant enough to understand my questions If not please feel free to ask me to elaborate more, and I will do my best to.

  7. Yes exactly, why does this cause them to appear to move? It appears to be bending the path of the light to your eyes/camera Lense? But how, the blurred area is no an inherent property of the object that is out of focus.
  8. I would most certainly agree, this is the main key. But its unusual that you can produce a push, or a pull on the words depending on the distance the closest object to the camera is. In these examples it would be the pencil or finger. The same effect can be achieved using our eyes though much harder.
  9. Good Question, and it got me on a train of thoughts when I woke up, so I tried a few things and here are the results in the form 2 videos. Changes Made I was curious if I would achieve the same results with text on paper, I thought maybe it had something to do with the phone light. I was also curious about @Genady question, so I used a coloring pencil. What I Found I was able to reproduce the effects with a few try's. I noticed a difference in the way the anomaly behaved, depending on the distance from the camera the closest objects were, in this example the pencil. In Video Example A, the Camera is about 8 inches away from the pencil and zoomed in, the words were slightly out of focus, and so was the pencil. But this time instead of the words moving towards the pencil, they moved away, as described with the cause of diffraction. Also, it is very early for me so excuse any typos.
  10. Hello, my name is Kane. I like to learn, and always have. I love to question things I observe, and even things I read about. Sometimes I do get confused from the scope of things, and with little understanding of what I read, comes with a million and one different question. It's also worth mentioning at this point that, I have Asperger, or are otherwise on the spectrum for autism. Just remember, if I question things or something, I am only trying to make sense of it and not dismiss anything or claim I know more about the subject. I ask questions if I'm confused or curious on why something is or behaves the way it does. I love Physics but know very little about it. Be Gentle to me here on the forums πŸ˜…
  11. Audio is loud, muted the video Before we get started, I wanted to say that I am no expert and nor do I claim to be an expert in any kind of science. I'm only curious and if anyone could provide to me a Well-established explanation. This would be great, maybe I have made a bigger deal out of something that isn't really that important. I want to clarify that the anomaly happening in this video was first discovered on accident without recording from a secondary phone. I First noticed it purely from my own eyes. (The Anomaly) One evening when I was texting, I noticed as my fingers came close to the words on my phones keyboard, a very strange and interesting anomaly would happen. The words on my phones keyboard seemed to move towards my fingers sometimes in a very exaggerated way, it was very puzzling to me. (My First Question So, I thought to myself for a few moments, I then asked was this "effect" just an illusion that had something to do with the way my brain was Interpreting the information given to it from the way my eyes were receiving the light? I needed a way to test this so here is my best thought. πŸ˜… (My Second Question + Experiment) I asked Myself, would the same thing happen with a camera, could this be replicated outside of the biological sensory perception (SIGHT) I wanted to see if I could replicate the same anomaly that I was seeing, but on a capture device, effectively eliminating the the first question, right? So, I grabbed a secondary phone. Anyone wanting to replicate this does not need a phone, but only the use of their working eyes. (What I discovered) This happens when both, the Background aka the (Text on screen) and the (Finger), are both slightly out of focus. But why does this cause this anomaly to occur?
