About Me

Hello. I am Low Jun Jian. I believe I have Asperger's Syndrome coupled with low latent inhibition, which explains a lot about my personality. That is to say, I seldom feel the need to socialize but have strong problem-solving skills and I can sometimes be overwhelmed by the outside world but have creative moments. I understand that the Big Five personality traits are the go-to personality psychology tool of experts but MBTI has the advantage of being able to group people and I consistently score as INTP.

In terms of official life achievements, I have a BSc (Hons) in Business Management, a FIDE rating of 1894, and I managed to enter Mensa Malaysia. I have a second-upper on my degree and did a thesis on business ethics involving the economic bottom of the pyramid (BOP). I didn't play a single FIDE-rated chess event from 2014 till 2023 and don't plan to in the future but who knows. I do play chess online for leisure, with my chess.com account link being https://www.chess.com/member/lazarus_low. My online chess rating often puts me among the 99th percentile of players, but I am sad to say I do not have a chess title. I managed to get into Mensa Malaysia in 2022 but I haven't participated in any events since I joined. I can't even say I know anyone in Mensa Malaysia well.

My motto is from dark comes light, from one understand all, and from faith, there is progress. The phrase "from dark comes light" is heavily influenced by my understanding of existentialism, which I can't claim to be an expert on but from what I understand, encompasses how I feel well. That is to say, there is no essential meaning to things but meaning is important and we can and should find meaning that corresponds to us. The phrase "from one understand all" is inspired but my interest in physics and my love of learning. In physics, as I understand, the goal is to get to the why based on the collection of known whats and there is an ongoing search for a ultimate theory that explains everything. The phrase is also inspired by my understanding that there is a Big Bang and that in life we often have to tackle and understand problems one at a time. The phrase "from faith, there is progress" is influenced by my understanding of a growth mindset and the ethics proposed by Immanuel Kant. For me, a growth mindset is the way to go and Kant does have a supreme principle of morality, with universalization meaning everyone generally agrees and when everyone generally agrees, it means giving what is generally agreed upon by everyone is loving humanity.
