Tree.

Featured Replies

An extra-credit question at the end of my calc final today:

What is the opposite of tree?

This doesn't require a math based answer.

The best I could do was log(tree)

Just wondering what you guys can come up with?

Hi Neon. My first math based thought is, of course, negative tree. Hey, would that tree have a square root?

Opposite of the tree? A potato plant, because the important part of the tree is above ground, the important part of the potato plant is underground :D .

This is where [math]

\infty

[/math] comes into play, you can always have another trait for the opposide of tree to be opposite to. eg. this cell is brown, this cell is green, this atom has a slightly misshapen nucleus ect.

Nevermore:

Yes, you could say just about anything, but the point is to come up with somewhat creative/clever answers.

Did your classmates come up with anything creative? Just curious. What sort of sense of humour does your teacher have? :)

[MATH] tree^{-1} [/MATH]

my instructor told us that eert and root would be wrong.

i win. :D

[math]tree^{-1}[/math] =1/tree.

If you answer correctly would you get more marks? Sounds very unfair to me.

Are you sure that by tree it was meant litterally a tree that lives and grows in the dirt? Or the concept of the network of a tree?

i think tree is simply an arbitrary noun the teacher picked to check if they understood the ideas behind ^-1.

The potato is the first thing that I thought of too and for the same reason. :)
