A voice in my head.

Featured Replies

It appears the symptom of hearing auditory voices may be evidence of "biological entanglement" of neural communication. Schizophrenia do not produces this auditory effect. It is therefore a wrong assumption to pretend the hearing of auditory voices is part of schizophrenia pathology.

Audioverbal hallucinations (AVH) are a very important criterion for diagnosing psychosis, which generally has a poor prognosis. However "attenuated psychotic symptoms" are useful in predicting who will go on to develop psychosis (as part of a psychotic disorder). This probably includes milder forms of "hearing voices" where there is a verbal component to it even though it is not perceived as external (i.e. not hallucinatory).
