All I know about vector calculus I have thought myself, but I have a good understanding of partial derivatives. Electrical phasors are vectors in the mathematical sense but not in the sense of vector calculus or the grad, div and curl operators. 2D Euclidian vectors do not, for instance, have a cross product, any more than 4D vectors have.
