Firefox Speed Tweaks

Featured Replies

These came from another forum, where they were probably just stolen from somewhere else...

In firefox, type "about:config" in the address bar to bring up the configuration editor.

Adjust these values accordingly. For boolean types just doubling clicking will switch them. For integers, you will be prompted to enter a value. Note that these are meant for broadband users.

browser.tabs.showSingleWindowModePrefs – true

network.http.max-connections – 48

network.http.max-connections-per-server – 16

network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy – 8

network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server – 4

network.http.pipelining – true

network.http.pipelining.maxrequests – 100

network.http.proxy.pipelining – true

network.http.request.timeout – 300

Now the one most helpful, IMO, you add yourself. Right click somewhere and go to New -> Integer. Name it 'nglayout.initialpaint.delay' (no quotes). Give it the value '0', This tells firefox how long to wait before it draws a page. For broadband users, 0 will make it go much faster because you get the information much quicker and don't need to redraw. Dial-up users should NOT set it to 0 because they will have to redraw a billion times before the page loads. In fact, they might prefer to set it to a high amount so that they get most of the page before the browser draws, requiring it to redraw less.

Lot's more interesting settings to check out in there, too. Mess around and let us know what you come up with.

i tried the IMO one and it seems to have speeded things up a little, muind you the speed is so variable it may be a while b4 i know for definate.

Those tweaks are from Mozilla's Firefox support forum, unsurprisingly.

I suggest going straight there for advice on modifying firefox.

Anyways, I've found at least the pipelining modifications giving added speed benefit .... not that firefox really needs any.

^Should be the same.

Sayanora, as I said, I'm just reposting them from another forum.

hmmm... I tried the 'nglayout.initialpaint.delay' one...and set it to 0. And the operation timed out while attempting to load the page. I guess it isn't the same for DSL modems.

you didn't put it in quotes, did you?

also, that error isn't really related at all... could have just been a fluke caused by the site you were going to.

if u use IE, you can also increase the numbers of multiple streams via the registry :)

if u use IE, you can also increase the numbers of multiple streams via the registry :)

where about in the registries are stream registries?

i mean, there are thousands of registries on every computer! i dont wanna have to search through them all!

HKEY_CURRENT_USER/SOFTWARE/MICROSOFT/WINDOWS/CURRENTVERSION/INTERNET SETTINGS

the two entries are

MaxConnectionsPerServer

MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server

but u probably have to create them urself.. just right click and new Dword value.

after creating them right click and select modify, for the first one. edit to decimal 6. and the second to decilma 8. you can choose whatever value u wnat however

hmmm, im not that familiar with making registries.

i've made the two you said in the directory you said.

so then you go to modify and select decimal (rather than hexadecimal) and then whats the "decimal 6" you mentioned? i assumed the "6" was the value data, but then you said: "choose whatever value u wnat however"... so what did you mean?

those are the recommended ones i think. but if u set it to higher, it might go faster.

you didn't put it in quotes' date=' did you?

also, that error isn't really related at all... could have just been a fluke caused by the site you were going to.[/quote']

No...I didnt put in the quotes. I'm pretty sure it was directly related, because when I set to a higher level, I had no problem accessing any sites.

so then this:

[/quote']

is correct?

where did you see/hear about it?

well is it trustworthy?
