Russia signs Kyoto

Featured Replies

after 7 years the Kyoto Protocol to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change will take affect. Do you think it will do any good?

And the ratification chart.http://www.climnet.org/EUenergy/ratification/calendar.htm

A step in the right direction .... most of the countries signing it have already got things pretty well under control or are "decaying" economies (like Russia, i.e. industrial production has gone down and they've become "environmentally friendly") ... so the impact may be questionable. Wonder if the treaty has a sort of a follow-up ... or "what next" clause ?

i only reason russia signed the treaty was cos their emmision is well below the given quota anyway. and there is a possibility now for trading emmission quotas to foriegn companies. opening a whole new market
