Ive just been watching Die another day and I was wondering whether a huge solar reflector (salaite based) is realistic for the future?, and what would be the reprocussions (and no im not talking about the concentrated light beams of which the rest of the film is based on)

just another thing leading to the extention of the human race

also the thing may act like a solar sale and fly away

Nocturnal species would be a bit confused.

Now, heres a theory.

 

we all know in the ionisphere UV rays split up O3 and CFCs. If we intestified this radiation using a solar reflector could we potentially split up CO2 into carbon and oxygen?

such a beam would have a profound effect on plant life, and flight paths.

there may even be some local weather disturbance too.

Provided it was fully controlable I think it could be of benefit. What about heating the sea around drought ridden countrys down wind of the land mass to encourage rain. Could it also then provide a shade to cool the air above that country. What if you could focus a beam at another planet.
