microorganism toughness

Featured Replies

okay, someone on yahoo Answers asked:

''Which microorganism is most tolerant when changing PH level and why?

I said yeast because it can only be changed with salt or oil.

Im probably wrong. ''

I searched the net but i just didn't find anything that answered it. (i have to say i wasn't THAT thorough)

the question fascinated me so i came over here to see if anyone can tell me WHICH MICROORGANISM that most tolerates a change in the pH?

so anyone?

I can't think of any except for microorganisms that are able to form endospores.

Interesting question though.

Chydorus sphericus, a Great Lakes zooplankton, lives in 3.4 to 9.5 and Listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria, grows from 4.5 to 9.6.

Somewhere, I read that pneumoniae was the toughest, but couldn't find any corroborating evidence or details.
