hi i was just wondering if anyone could tell me what is the average value, by weight, of rough diamonds?

Diamonds are not sold by weight, Diamonds are sold by grade. Much like you can have a rare coin worth 1000 dollars or 100,000.00 depending on it's quality.

Carat is a unit of mass. While the value per carat is variable depending on the specifics, diamonds are indeed sold by weight, and the price (for gem-quality diamonds, at least) is not linear (e.g. a 2 carat diamond is not simply twice the price of a 1 carat diamond)
