men & women

i recently had a discussion with a friend of mine in which we were discussing the differences between men and women... or course not the obvious differences but the way their brains function differently.

A question i had which neither of us could answer and neither could a couple of girls we asked is:

If men are much more visually stimulated and react the way they do because of this visual stimulation, what do women have to compensate for it if one presumes that women aren't as visually stimulated as men.

The thing i have problem with is the fact i believe that in recent years women have had the opportunity to become more visually stimulated and that is why proffesions which were first only accesable to men, are now becoming more popular to women.

I don't think that women are any less visually stimulated than men, just in a different way.

So, what do you people think?

i think that all humans are stimulated in the same basic ways,

but the fine details are down to the personal individual, some people like porn, and others like child porn, i dont particually like either, but there's a difference between different people, not between different sexes.

although there may be a slightly different averages for different sexes, i think its down to the individual

well done gr8 link even though ive seen it be4, it was a chain mail email a while ago, but its still just as good, very topical,

but lets go back to the original question, coz it does get annoying when threads go off the topic, read the 1st post

Given that the female brain hemispheres are generally more symmetrical than the male brain hemispheres, enabling stimultaneous right and left lobe processing; and given that female brains are generally more limbically active while male brains are generally more cognitively active, it might be that visual stimulation is actually a compensation for the lesser sensory stimulation perceived by the male.

In other words, men see what is in front of them while women develop an overview of their entire surroundings.

This is in keeping with the genetic development from historical imperatives. Hunters require intense concentration or tunnel vision to be successful. Gatherers require a constant awareness of the relationship of all things in the surroundings to be successful.

Combining the brain advantages of the male and female in a symbiotic relationship can produce success in any endeavor.

Apparently it's a web site that doesn't allow image leaching.

That sounds so simple and obvious, and yet the thread I posted in my previous reply seemed to be devoted to figuring out which gender was 'best'.

Thank you for corroboration of something I've been trying to explain to my fellow males for quite some time. It's like trying to tell them that if they pee sitting down they'll have less to clean up! :P They just don't get it!

I equate it to the difference between tactical (male, immediate surroundings) and strategic (female, big-picture) focus. I use the forest fire analogy. Men see a fire and want to put it out. Women can look at the more long-range affects and think, 'Maybe it would be better for the forest to let it burn!" Men think this is a problem with logic, but it's just a difference in focus.

It's incredible what men and women can accomplish when they loosed their grips on their egos and use their strengths in focus in that symbiotic way.

I totally disagree with the fire analogy. I was home alone one time as a teenager and the kitchen caught on fire while I was asleep. I put it out but my mother failed to see the long term stategic advantage (we got a new kitchen \0/ ).

Language.

Males tend to have a general advantage over females in visual-spacial abilities. Females tend to have a general advantage over males in language development and use. They generally develop language earlier and remain more advanced in vocabulary and language use than males.

I very much like your forest fire analogy. Would you mind if I used it sometimes (not for publication or anything)?
Not at all, I'd be honored, senexa.

When women, who tend to worry about everything all the time, learn to delegate inividual tasks to their men, who love solving one problem after another, things tend to go very well in a relationship.

Maybe all she wanted was a new kitchen. Or maybe you thwarted her real goal, getting a whole new house! ;)
