When you have two magnets next to each other with opposite poles closest to each other, are you feeling the elctromagnet force, or are you feeling the electrons being transfered from the negative pole to the positive pole?

 

I am trying to understnad what a magnet is on the molecular scale.

Electrons pair in opposite spinning directions, this is how they form cooper pairs,

In some metals the electrons spin the same way so the negative charges dont cancel out, thus creating a attraction....tihs is a very broad explainatoin and is incorrect if you can understand teh true theory to magnetism,

"electromagmnetic" means that the material is artifically magnet by creating a coil and passing electricty through it. electrostatic force is what you mean....

If he's talking about magnets, then it's not the electrostatic force, but the magnetic force. Electromagnetic force is not a wrong term to use, even for a permanent magnet, because they are essentially different incarnations of one thing. It's a matter of your reference frame - an electric field becomes (in part) a magnetic field if the source or observer is moving.

as also an elecrtic field does (in part) when a Magnetic source or conductor is moving within it field of influence :)

 

this is the entire principal behind an electricity generator, and the above post in the later is the principal behind an electic motor (or any other electro-mechanical device).

 

this is assuming the use of permenant magnets in both instances :))
