Help Regarding Volts, Ressistance and Ampere

Featured Replies

Tomorrow my school will be having final test. And this question is not for homework actually but there's something I don't understand for the test tomorrow. The question I would like to know is about formula of Volts, Ressistance and Ampere. This is the sample question I'm confused with:

-What is the meaning of the term 'equivalent resistance'?

I want to know how to find resistance in a circuit, or to find their potential different and current.

Thank You for the help, I'm new here. :D

R = V/I

V= IR

I= V/R

it depends what kind of circuit it is, if its a series or parallel. with resistors in series you just add their resistances together.

R(total) = R1 + R2 + R3... etc.

for resistors in parallel:-

1/R(total) = 1/R(1) + 1/R(2) + 1/R(3)

so if R1 = 8 ohms

and R2 = 8 ohms

and R3 = 4 ohms

1/R(total) = 1/8 + 1/8 +1/4 = 1/2

1/2 is the reciprical so flip it over to get 2/1 and therefore the total resistance = 2 ohms.

hope tha makes sense?

Do you know what 'equivalent resistance' mean?

Do you know what 'equivalent resistance' mean?

It's used when you have a circuit with multiple components; the resistance they have is equivalent to having a single resistor of that value.
