Spyware...

Featured Replies

Apart from in January.

I just havent had any problems, you people have bulls eyes painted on your ip adresses, lol :P

I suggest you run Adaware and do a full sweep with a decent, up-to-date virus checker.

I deleted my Adware and my Norton antivirus isnt functional anymore. But I dont have any spyware or adware because I used spybot yesterday. :D

Im telling you I dont have any viruses.

I would put money on your PC having at least 1 uninvited guest if you use no defences of any sort.

Describe your set-up. I'm betting you're behind a physical gateway?

I have no clue what your talking about?

Is your PC plugged directly into a modem, or are you on a network?

Modem I have DSL from AOL.

Doesn't AOL bb come with a firewall and A/V?

It comes with a firewall, which I purposly have offline, seriously offline. :D

It causes to many complications.

If you have a direct modem connection, no firewall, and no a/v, I guarantee your PC is being port scanned constantly by worms, and I wouldn't be surprised if you've picked a good few up.

What OS do you use?

And what firewall do they provide? Or is it one of their own-made firewalls?

XP professional why does thta matter?Im going to run an antivirus scan right now, and Ill show you the results.

Yes the O/S matters, because some (like XP) are constantly found to have gaping great security holes.

Make sure your A/V is fully updatd before you run it.

McAfee I think.

Well its too late for that.

Well, i would say that he should use Zone Alarm. I use it and its quite good. Have you used it before?

Yes, but I'm behind a physical gateway at the minute so I don't need a FW.

Well its too late for that.

Too late for what? To update your A/V?

If it's not up-to-date, it will just miss a lot of problems.

Last week Sophos issued about 40 new virus warnings - if you haven't updated since January you can imagine the unseen horrors.

Jeez how do you people get so many viruses?I dont think you need that much protection. :P:)

I just updated my Norton 2003 and I restarted, I update it once a month Sayonara... :D;)

I don't really get virusses, its just the fact that I feel more comfortable that I am behind a firewall!

Nobody has actually said "hey I get X viruses", so I don't know what you're talking about.

I don't get viruses. That's not because I don't know they're there, it's because I know how to recognise and avoid them, and if they do get on they last less than a millisecond because I am well-defended.

Physical Gateway?

A PC acting as a central Unix hub for a LAN, running hardware and software firewalls.

Then what is "too late"?
