Melvin Posted December 31, 2007 Share Posted December 31, 2007 Actually, you don't need the hypochlorite. You can just use the chloride (aka sodium chloride, table salt). YT2095 Posted December 31, 2007 Share Posted December 31, 2007 well unless you plan on doing Gallons of this you will only end up with at best a few grams per liter! the stuff is only 5% in fact the Strongest Possible NaOCl soln is a mere 12%. Melvin Posted December 31, 2007 Share Posted December 31, 2007 The chloride is not formed. You put the chloride in to get the chlorate. The electrolysis converts the chloride to the chlorate.
