IRC chat not working?

I have been having trouble with the IRC chat lately. I get the error message 'Applet IRCApplet notinited' (whatever that means) followed by 'Loading Java Applet failed'.

Anyone else?

I haven't changed anything that I am aware of.

Just tested and the Java applet seems to work for me. Have you changed your Java installation recently?

If you'd like, you can use a proper client such as X-Chat (Windows version).

It does sound like a Java problem. X-Chat as mentioned above is a viable alternative; barring that just some simple IRC client like mIRC will do the trick.
