Forum for Acturial Sciences?

Featured Replies

I would be interested and would contribute, but seeing as the "Applied Mathematics" forum has very little activity as it is I doubt it would be a success

Actuary is such a rare profession. I think there a only like 16,000 actuaries in the US as opposed to 1.5 million accountants.

4100 active in UK, so 16000 sounds about right for USA - much easier to qualify in the USA though

Its probably the same case with lawyers. In the UK, becoming a solicitor these days is difficult (like actuaries - employment demand is not a priority). Its either that or the pay is too little for anyone to bother.

I understand that actuaries are payed quite a lot - for the lucky person who gets the job that is. I think a lot of people training as actuaries end up as accountants.

The attrition rate during the exams in UK is incredibly high
