Not a bad idea, if you want to do anything web related, especially non-windows OS.

Because it's an excellent teaching language as it's REALLY annoying about syntax and OO, unlike c++ that'll let you get away with writing any old rubbish...

Oh and Sun pushes it at schools continuousely it's one of their biggest marketing pushes...
