Air Condition

Featured Replies

I have very basic question, one function of domestic air condition is to cool air can any body tell me other functions more than that?

To heat air?

Some air condition units have the ability to change the temperature, between say 15C and 35C. I'd call 35C heating!

A function of an air conditioning unit could also be to sense and monitor the air temperature and use that information to decide what to do ie. cool air or maintain current temperature.

Besides removing heat, air conditioners have fans that circulate air within a system. Some have filters so they remove large impurities and clean the air. Evaporative coolers and air conditioners with humidifiers add moisture to the air they process (de-humidifiers are used in some locales to lower humidity).

In Florida its very hot and humid and without AC it gets very humid inside. The hurricanes reminded us of that. As Phi said, circulating the air is very important.

What about oxygen, does it play any role in bringing oxygen or fresh air from outside?

Some air conditioners sit in a window and bring outside air in. Some sit on pads outside and do the same thing. Central air units usually sit on top of your furnace and are located indoors.

None of these residential units actually bring extra oxygen into the system.
