Conversion to absorption cooling ?

Featured Replies

Hello.

The condenser, capillary tube, evaporator are canibalizable from a discarded system. Removing the electrical driven components; how feasible is to convert to absorption ?

When I was 19, attempted to convert a (kerosene) absorption refrigerator into an air conditioner/cooler for my car by using its exhaust gas heat. Got one but resulted too big and when a pipe punctured, the ammonia leak shock forced me to forget it. Scary. From a video I saw recently seems can be humbly done without nasty gases. My heat source is free. The video in miniature is here ---> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DYnaHRpJL4

This is not a 'tinkering' forum nor for HVAC experts but comments are welcome on how would a dwelling could use such conversion contraption. The basic 5000 BTU 'window' airconditioner... how many Watts heat would need ? 1500W ? (As a reference to a larger system)

The HVAC systems as pictured are discarded daily; could these be converted/reused; or, a simple 'window' unit ?
