Based on my (rather limited) knowledge about the mainstream cosmology models and General Relativity, I do not think it is not logical that "space is a ball". I think a more logical statement is "The shape of the universe is not known at this time but observations support that the universe is flat with small margin of error ".

Before investing time in more explanations, would you mind clarifying what the shape of the universe (local and global geometry of the universe) is what you wish to discuss? Your opening post is not very detailed.

 

*) Since this is in Relativity section I guess you are talking about Shape of the universe https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shape_of_the_universe
