  1. Cheers for your comments DrP and I have to admit that some of my concerns are about behaviour and how to cope in the long term. On the plus side if I could inspire some kids to be more interested in science I know that would make me happy:D

Anyway I've got a while to go yet and my main concern right now is starting an essay on the Wnt signalling pathway that is due in tomorrow  Oh no I've gone and left it til the last minute again

  2. Hi everyone, especially teachers :D As I'm now in the last year of my degree, I have to look forward and decide what I want to do from here. I'm thinking about doing my PGCE and becoming a Chemistry teacher, I've had a little bit of experience at a high school this year and really enjoyed it, but I was only there for 3 wks.

So what I really want to know is what are the best and the worst experiences that you've had while teaching???

    Cheers:-)

  3. procrastination is more of a bad habit than an unhealthy one.

Yes true, but mentally it can be unhealthy, it seems that some things you can only put off for so long then you have to do them. Generally writing essays in my case :)

  4. I've really only ever had one ambition (apart from wanting to be James Bond!) and it's nothing to do with careers and some might say its a bit morbid.

When I was 4, Elvis died, and a man I knew was really upset and crying, I asked my mum why and she told me it was because Elvis had died. So I asked if Elvis and Terry were good friends, she said 'of course not, they'd never even met'. This confused me, but what I realised from this was that - 1)people die and 2)when some people die it effects people that they don't even know. So from then on I knew that I wanted to be a little like Elvis! Not a world famous singer but to be remembered by people who don't know me.

I'm not quite sure how I would ever achieve this, when I was 12 I thought maybe one day I'd win an Olympic Gold in 100m, when I was 19 and art college I thought maybe I'd make millions from my paintings. Now I don't know, maybe I'll invent or discover something. :eyebrow:

But if I get to 70 and I haven't made an impact on the world I'll resort to plan B and become an OAP streaker at sporting events around the world! Then when I die someone I've never met will say " Oh my God did you hear that crazy old streaker lady has died, how very sad that is" I don't expect they will shed a tear or put a memorial up to me, but you never know stranger things have happened I'm sure.:D

  6. Being able to spell doesn't mean you are of higher intelligence and because I could spell I would never look down upon friends who didn't spell very well, in fact my mother regularly spelt things wrongly but I wouldn't pick her up on it, it's just something she's not good at. My point is that, when working on a computer why wouldn't people want to use the option of spell check? Surely by using this they would be able to learn something?? I don't know maybe I'm just too picky:doh:

  7. Poor grammar doesn't bother me as much as poor spelling. I've just read a question on the medical part of this forum, where every other word seems to have a spelling mistake, this person says they work on computers all day long, so why not use a spell checker if you cannot spell? I think it's just laziness, (unless the person isn't English speaking or maybe dyslexic), my 10 year old can spell better. Also I am definitely more inclined not to reply to, or even read the entire post when the spelling is so terrible. I'm not a snob about this kind of thing, I was just always taught that it was important, especially when applying for jobs and writing essays.

  8. I hate the way that Hollywood films nearly always portray the British as eccentrics with some kind of freakish generic accent that sounds like we're news readers from the 1950's and we don't all live in London. Actually you can apply this to any character in a film that isn't American, they have a stereotype for every country.
