ok but if you seal it you are going to trap some oxygen unless you put argon in the vial but then its not pure hydrogen so how could you get a pure sample gas like hydrogen with out it blowing up when it is getting sealed up, sorry if this sounds irritating but i am just curious as to how they and you do it

oh right just what i thought but saying that how do suppliers of elements get elements that would react with heat into a vial and seal them up

how do you seal both ends because you would have to heat them to make the glass go soft so you can seal the ends but surly some elements will react with the heat in an explosive way sending glass every where so it isnt really safe unless there is another way of doing it, i dont know how you do it this is just my guess

could you use a ptfe tube instead of a glass tube for condensing nitic acid because i some how managed to break my glass tubes when bending them and i read that ptfe tubing is resistant to most/nearly all acids and solvents if so this would be so much more easyer and better to use as a condenser as well as putting the boiling flask in an ice bath i could also coil the tube and put that in an ice bath as well for extra cooling which would condense the fumes better

ok do not use the stuff from totsie is just another form of the anarchist cookbook if you look though the post's on the first page about 5 lines down there is a whole topic on making nitric acid but the general mix is about 1parts potassium nitrate and two parts sulphuric acid it so it would be 98g of sulphuric acid 100% concentrated and 202g of potassium nitrate but seeing how 100% sulphuric acid is very hard to get i would use about 70-80% conc sulphuric acid for that you will need 83g sulphuric acid and 202g of potassium nitrate, to get 70-80% sulphuric acid get the sulphuric acid from a battery boil it off untill dense white fumes apper in the latter stages of boiling that will give you about 98% conc to dilute it and sulphuric acid to water, other wise it will spray conc sulphuric acid in your face, the density of 70% conc sulphuric acid is 1.61g/ml so say 200ml would weigh 322g so if you measure out 200ml of boiled then diluted sulphuric acid it should weigh 322g the rest is like i said in another post

well i have put an order through for my glassware and ill use 70-80% conc that should be enough and i know 1 mole of 70% sulphuric acid weighs 83g so ill use 202g of KNO3 plus 83g of HNO3 and heat about 80-90c great

lol thats a brilliant idea, a little unorthodox and costly in money to use as an insect killer but still a brilliant idea, and with nitrogen triiodide i would rather have a wet batch for a short time then a dry batch
