  1. You are right. I didn't deny the Physics. I also said the vibrations will be produced. What I meant is that there was nobody to sense the vibrations and tell that there was 'sound'. If the question is raised about the vibrations caused, then the answer should be affirmative. Just like the fact of 'falling of the tree', which is true whether some person sees it or not, same way vibrations in the air are caused. But the name 'sound' is given to them, only when someone having hearing senses feels them. The vibrations should subside in due course. But long back in some magazine, I read that the scientist have caught the RAGAS (symphonies) of a famous classical singer Tansen, from his grave, which I don't believe. However I believe in science, and I agree that vibrations will be caused, I think you are right the vibrations are named sound whether some body senses them or not. So 'SOUND' will be there.
  2. To post answer in 'Spoiler', first I click Add reply, then click other styles, out of several options available I select 'Spoiler' and click it, a box opens for the message in which I type the message, and then I post it by clicking 'Add'. Then click 'Add Reply'. Is it Ok.
  3. Thank you D H, I think it could be more interesting if we consider the rate of grass re-growth as per square unit. It does not seem logically correct that grass regrows irrespective of the space /area available for its growth. Whatsoever my answer in my last post was wrong, reposted answer here is the right one. Say Empty pasture is full of grass in p days. Then rate of grass re-growth is 1/p pasture per day. Cow eats full pasture in c days, so in 1 day it eats 1/c grass. Goat eats full pasture in g days, so in 1 day it eats 1/g grass. Duck eats full pasture in d days, so in 1 day it eats 1/d grass. Therefore Cow + goat eat (1/c + 1/g) pasture in 1day. But in 1 day 1/p grass re-grows. So cow + goat finish (1/c + 1/g) – 1/p grass in 1 day. It is given that cow + goat eat Full + re-grown grass in 45 days. So in 1 day they finish 1/45 pasture. 1/c + 1/g – 1/p = 1/45 ……………………………………………………………………………………………………….. [1] Similarly 1/c + 1/d - 1/p = 1/60 ….………………………………………………………………………………..……. [2] Similarly 1/g + 1/d - 1/p = 1/90 ….……………….………………………………………………….………..……….. [3] Also it is given that the amount of grass cow eats equals the amount of grass goat and duck eat together. So 1/c = 1/g + 1/d ………………….………………………………………………………………………………………… [4] From equations [3] & [4] 1/c – 1/p = 1/90 .………………………………………………………………….….… [5] Hence from [1] & [5], 1/g + 1/90 = 1/45 or 1/g = 1/45 + 1/90 or 1/g = 1/90 ……………………………………………………….. [6] Similarly from [2] & [5], 1/d = 1/ 180 ..……………………………………………………………………………… [7] From equation [4], [6], & [7], 1/c = 1/60 …………..………………..…………………………..……………….. [8] And from [5] & [8], 1/p = 1/180 ……………………………………………………………………………………….. [9] Hence when all three eat the grass together, they finish 1/60 + 1/90 +1/180 – 1/180 = 1/36 grass in 1 day. So all three cow + goat + duck together finish the grass in 36 days. I used 'spoiler'. But somehow it did not work....?
  4. Please let me know this is correct or not...!
  5. OP does not say that event B will occur 4 years after event A takes place. Event A occur every 13 years and event B every 17 years. So if today both events occured together, then counting from today, second occurrence of A will be after 13 years from now and that of B will be 17 years from now. Then third occurence of A will be 26 years from now and that of B will be 34 years from now. Thus the difference goes on increasing for every successive occurrence.
  6. Thank you spyman, I can now post in spoiler......! You are right.... but only if the distance between NY and Washington & the head start of the BMW and Corvette is irrelevant. But as seen from the puzzle, it clearly states the relevance....or I did not understand it ....?
  7. Hello friends, this is my first posting in this forum. I take very much interest in puzzles, brain teasers. Hope you enjoy my company. I am replying I will denote bmw as car 'M' and Vette as car 'N'; NY as 'A', Washington as 'B', and their meeting place as 'C'. It is given that M departed one hour before N started. Say after one hour M was at a place D, So at that moment the distance DB - between the two cars was 204 - 90 = 114 miles. Say after M reached D, the two cars meets at C after 'T' hrs. So DC - the distance traveled by M = 90T Also BC - the distance traveled by N = 30T But DC + BC = DB = 114 miles. Therefore 90T + 30T = 114......[a] From equation [a], T = 57 minutes. Now the question is what the distance was between M and N, before one hour they meet. Clearly before M & N meet, M had traveled for 57 minutes after reaching point D, so M was at 3 min distance before reaching the place D, i.e. 3/60 * 90 = 4.5 miles back from D; and at that moment car N did not even started from B. Hence distance between M & N at that moment (one hour before the two cars meet) = 114 + 4.5 = 118.5 miles. SORRY I DON'T SEE ANY OPTION TO POST IN SPOILER. Please help me....
  8. Hello everybody, I am new to this forum. I specially like to keep myself busy in solving brain teasers, puzzles and mysteries.... Hope I will be able to contribute something useful here also...
