  1. I'm just finishing up Organic Chemistry 1 this semester. I have a firm grasp on FT-IR Spectroscopy. The spectroscopy problem I have is proton NMR. We have done done work with Carbon13 NMR, and I don't think we will anytime during my undergrad years. I am able to identify peaks within the spectra if I know what the structure is, but what I'm still not sure about is how to identify unknown compounds given the spectra. Does anyone have any tips, I don't have any readily available spectra to show unfortunately. I understand the reactions well enough to know what products should be produced. Any help would be appreciated! -Evan
  2. I have a question which is similar to this. At the current time I'm torn between Pharmaceutical research and practicing in a pharmacy. Would one not want to get a Pharm D when they would be doing research? The Pharm D path does (At least at the university I've been looking at) lead you down towards the practice of pharmacy, but it does have many hours in a lab. So, I guess the main question is, for pharmaceutical research, would a Pharm D be helpful/necessary?
  3. I'm a first year chemistry student, So I've only done General Chemistry 1... But I'd probably have to say either solid NaOH, or Concentrated Sulfuric acid... Rather tame, but first year chem student. Now I have watched some videos on YouTube that contain some pretty nasty stuff i.e. elemental Flourine, but I don't think that counts.
  4. Hello there! As I'm sure you can tell, I'm new to the website. At the moment I am a freshman studying Chemistry with an emphasis in Pharmaceutical Chemistry. At the current time I'm debating over practicing pharmacy, or doing pharmaceutical research... My microbiology professor asked the class if any of us would be interested in assisting in her research on a specific protein involved in the avian flu, and I'm hoping she'll let me help her, so I can get some actual scientific research under my belt! I look forward to getting to know you all!
