Is it safe to suck this gas in? I hear that it's supposed to make your voice deeper temporarily, now I really want to try it.

Beavers and their dam building
TransformerRobot replied to TransformerRobot's topic in Ecology and the Environment
I meant were they bad for creating cleaner air for us to breathe, which is what trees do. -
Beavers have to take down trees to make their homes, and a dam for more than 1 beaver would need quite a few trees to put together. Are beavers bad for forests?

Surgically change someone's species?
TransformerRobot replied to TransformerRobot's topic in Speculations
Well we can't possibly be the ONLY humanoid species. By humanoid, of course, I mean like this: -

That thing about a fruit bat and mold is a bit of an exaggeration there. If we can't make humans biologically capable of mating with alien sapients, then would it be more feasible to create a psyonic link between a human and an alien "avatar" as they called it? -

Philosophically a lot of them are (X-Men, To Kill a Mockingbird, and Shilo to name a few). Anyway, to get back on topic, if we can't change the species of an individual through genetic engineering or surgery, then how can there be a romantic relationship between a human and an alien like in Avatar? Then what good is it to sexualize extra terrestrials (Star Wars, Avatar, etc.) if they're not creatures that humans CAN mate with? Sex sells, but that's close to tormenting the target audience. -

Then what if the surgery was to, instead of turning a human into an alien, give the human more compatible reproductive organs with their alien lover? -
Well I don't know, I'm not good with weather science, so I came here to ask anybody here about it.
-
What I wanted to know is what would the planet's temperature be?
-
So you're saying that our own atmosphere of oxygen and carbon dioxide is a liquid that we can't swim in?
-
Well an atmosphere is defined as "The gases surrounding the Earth or any astronomical body." Gases, not liquids. You can't have a liquid atmosphere, can you? You could drown in it. Or do you mean something else by "liquid air".
-
So it's the same case with our atmosphere on Earth?
-
How can an atmosphere be in any state other than a gas state?

Surgically change someone's species?

I was referring to the idea of doing it without killing anyone. -
I'm sure enough of you here have seen James Cameron's Avatar, and remember that a big plot point in the film is Jake Sully being transferred from his original body to that of a Na'avi. That sort of thing has me thinking: Could human beings one day get a surgery that fully changes their species? Yes, it does sound a little far-fetched for today's genetic scientists, but in the distant future it could be possible, but also quite dangerous. I think something like this could be beneficial to those who are terminally ill or have organ failure, so they could get their full consciousness transferred into a new body, maybe even of a different species. Then there's the fact that if we encountered sapient alien life forms who needed our help, or if we needed their help, the process could be done either way so that we'd be able to safely interact in each other's respective environments. Well, now I wish to read your thoughts on such an idea.

Well it looked awfully well done to me, that's why I thought it was real.
-
Well how did they do the goo? Or make them move so quickly? Was some of that CGI?
-
I thought it was maybe an Owl Limpet, unless those things can't go outside water. If it wasn't the pop that made it explode, then what blew it up? And how did they get that much goo from it?
-
Well it's a carbonated liquid, and the creature may not have had the proper digestive system for those sorts of drinks. The explosion didn't seem loud enough for dynamite.
-
Well I thought that's what the chemical reaction was when it was given root beer. The part about them being too fast on the rocks I can understand.
-
What makes you think it's fake? It seemed pretty lifelike to me.
-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=_oPxa3C3iu0&feature=endscreen Okay after seeing the video I think this creature is very fragile and prone to vomiting, but I don't understand why it blew up. Probably because the young men who found it were careless enough to give it root beer, which may have reacted improperly with it's digestive system and made it explode. The part where we see many of the creatures run away means that they must be very fast when they need to be, so the one at the end that died must've been deathly ill. This is a video from 3 years ago, so is this a creature that's been officially identified?

You mean this planet is self-cooling? If I knew that I wouldn't worry so much about saving electricity.
-
Okay, how about without the carbon dioxide?
