  1. most likely was that it was all a dream. dreams all appear extremely real, they are real [just in your head] but you dont think them of realistic like, as you forget them very quickly

    There was this interesting question discussed in my philosophy class : How do you tell you are/aren't in a dream ?

    Strangely enough there is no satisfactory answer for it that we could find.

  2. I will not support nor oppose/criticise Moore. I'd bring in another point frm the movie. This is referring to the fact that the American govt is using its warning levels to its maximal advantage by periodically turning it to high risk and so on.......

     

    I really do think that this is very true, and frankly it seems that either there is some psychological motive behind this or there is a lot of paranoya present. C'mon the world is not as unsafe as these warning levels would have you believe.

  3. 1) Generate an arbitrary disc inside sphere's volume, by taking any three points on sphere, making a triangle and then making perpendicular bisectors to each side to locate centre of the disc.

    2) Generate another disc ensuring that it is not parellel to the first one.

    3) Make a line perpendicular to plane of discs and passing thru their center (you can do this with a compass and ruler)

    4) Point of intersection of lines thru 2 discs is centre of sphere.

    5) Now diameteres may be drawn trivially.

    But I should have said that I is the only one with a slightly stable +7 state.

    Perbromates are prepared from electrolytic methods.

    Perbromates and perchlorates are known only in solution.

    [MATH]HClO_4[/MATH] is a super oxidising agent if you are ever able to produce it, its not stable.

    But flourine definately does not go into +7 (If there is any justice in this world ;) )

    Rectified output won't be good enough for a DC application.

    You would need more than just a simple 2/4 diode rectifier, a more complicated filter circuit would probably be involved. I dunno how easy it'd be to detach that.

     

    And yes, 8/10 amps seems to be a huge current requirement to run a bulb.

  6. I certainly agree with you up to a point. But the way you say that you act as if our objective was to kill civilians and blow up civilian houses. The reason that civilians are killed and we blow up houses is because the terrorists hide among civilians to use them as shields. If we went in and fought them with hand-held arms there would be just as much civilian loss but there would be more dead coalition soldiers. When we consider the advantages and disadvantages of fighting terrorist in their own land we have to consider the alternatives. They already hate us and want to kill us. They proved that with 911. Yes, I know that we provoked them with the first Iraqi war, but who started this is not the issue. Btw I am only suggesting that in the Afghanistan war we might have come out ahead.

     

    I must say that even if you think there are terorrists hiding in civilian areas, there is no way you can justify bombing these areas. Going about carpet bombing, and shelling areas is just slaughter. Once you decide you wanna kill terrorists, there is no easy way to do it and history has several examples to show this (Closer to where I am, look at India-Pakistan).

     

    You enter into a "war", you want to kill terorrists, you claim not to want to kill civilians but then why the hell do you blast houses? Its like running away from difiifculty. Its as simple as this, either the allied troops had to suffer more losses (in a ground battle only situation) or there could be loads of civilians dead. And frankly, once you as a "protector of fredom and democracy" decide to embark on such a clensing of terorr, you MUST accept these losses in advance. Its not ok, to kill civilians.

     

    Who started it is certainly an issue. Why did the US retaliate ? because it was attacked. Why was there 911 ? because of what US did in the past to make extremist elements turn anti-US.

     

    I don't know how much you can judge sitting in the US, but I can tell you for sure that because of all this in Iraq and Afghanistan, the US did gain a very negative image in several places (even here). I do think of Bush as a war-monger (This is not an asssertion just an opinion - and I never meant to call every American a war-monger and apologise if thats the impression you got). The fact is that I found Frht 911 a brilliant documentary (A growing Anti-Bush feeling might have contributed to this.).

    <10 d orbitals would mean unpaired electrons (Hund's rule of maximum multiplicity)

  8. Px Py and Pz (for an example) are 3 orbitals, or the whole them are one orbital.

     

    They have three seperate mathematical functions depicting them. When you contruct their electron density plots, they look exactly alike except that they are alligned along the three different axes x,y, z.

     

    I can give you an example I acctually solved for in the Schrodinger equation for the hydrogen atom.

    px turns out to be a real valued function

    py and pz turn out to be comlpex valued, which you have to combine linearly to get a real life interpretation.

    So quantum mechanically the only thing that electrons sitting inside these orbitals share are the two quantum numbers "principle - n" and "angular momentum - l" and hence also have same energy (degeneracy).

    Its used to explain colours of metal comlpexes. The field of unpaired electrons splis into two levels, and for most metals the difference b/w these levels corresponds to visible light. Hence the colour. Complexes are coloured only if there are unpaired electrons.

    Problem : Factoring a 1024 bit or higher bit number. There is no known efficient way to do it. If you can figure out a way to do this, you'll probably become a billionaire in no time.

     

    Using 100 digit or so prime numbers, RSA develops a function that is "impossible" to invert. If you know the inverse function you can decode. This inverse function determination needs prime factorisation.

    It is an ingenious method of encryption, I made a an RSA cryptosystem once, the mathematics involved is not extremely difficult, but the fact is to crack it you need know how to factorize large numbers into prime factors, thats what Shore's algorithm does.

    Well thats because Peter Shore came up with an algorithm to crack RSA cryptography system which can be realised using quantum somputers.

    RSA is what pretty much every application uses for secure data transfers like passwords, credit card nos etc.

    Though electrons fizz about at great speeds in the atom, classicaly their speeds are still less than 0.1c so there shouldn't be any appreciable difference in mass because of that.

    You look at electrons in "orbitals" and not "orbits". "Orbitals" are smeared across to quite a large extent.
