  1. "aspens" Not sure what aspens means; i looked it up and it said something about a tree.

But anyway, it would result in a company controlling the country (unelected).

Then this could spread through the world and one company could own every country in the world. Imagine, if it was Toys r us, coca cola etc

  2. A very interesting idea.

Though in this case, they wouldn't know what the child was going to be like so whether they used a surrogate for a clone or another baby wouldn't make a difference.

And I don't think the thought that it is an identical child to the one they lost would matter.

  3. I presume that these areas you and bascule are talking about are 'deprived: low unemployment, high percentage of drop-outs etc.

I think that maybe people fall into that sort of culture because they don't think they could do anything else. You know, their sort of stuck there so they go with flow.

Do you think if they were shown more opportunities as kids then a small percentage of them would be inspired? And over time more and more would listen as the mind-set changed.

  4. I'd like to be a herbivore of somekind, that way surely you'd be seen as a better animal and get to heaven. I would say rabbit but probably get mixi or stare at some headlights; not the smartest of animals.

My mum and nana say they would be sheep, so I'll join them. My friend, a panda: don't really fancy eating bamboo.

  5. I only ever thought there were 9 dimensions anyway?

3d Past (where you moved From)

3d Present (what you`re moving in Now)

3d Future (where you`re moving Into).

The nine dimensions you've stated are actually just four: the three space one's, and past, present, and future are represented by time.

Although that video has know scientific support, it claims that if they were the the correct dimensions then there could only be ten...no more.

Interested to know what people think the dimensions above the fourth are...

  6. Would there be anything to stop companies buying other company's towns? If not then in theory one company could run the whole country.

Would there be anyplace for a government? What would they control?

  7. Thanks for your reply.

I was thinking of Churchill for the very reason you said. But also Fitzwilliam because it accepts a high percentage of state school; not that it particularly bothers me but sill.

Do you know much about fitzwilliam?

Plus, do you go to Cambridge/know someone there? And if so, do you/they enjoy it?

    cheers.

  8. metaphorically, yes. By listening to my tacky music on myspace; accessible via my homepage. The jazz is best. Don't listen to classical improv.

physically, no. I'm in the process of composing the recipe and cannot divulge it until completion (as advised by patent specialists). lol.

  9. If you mean human's respect or lack of, then yes.

I don't think as a whole we do care for nature? We are more overwhelmed by our self-presservation. Our sudden interest for global warming has been propelled by the discovery it may result in our eventual extinction. Not by our thoughts towards our effect on the environment.

I'm very much for having little effect on our environment though I'm sure someone will have ago at me; saying we should be for human progression above all else.

  10. Specifically, human meat! It's made of exactly the same stuff we are, so it seems like it should have all the nutrients we need, in pretty much the right proportions.

I'm not a biologist and/or I may have misunderstood you but are you suggesting that because we've had all the nutrients to make our body that we should be able to extract them from ourselves and re-use?

If this is the case, then it would not be correct because some reactions would be irreversible and some nutrients would be initiators or intermediates and may be lost once used.

Sorry if this is irrelevant, but it's what stood out to me.

    :)

  11. Martin:-

What's your view on the argument me and Sisyphus were having on designer baby effecting the variety in humans? or do you not feel it would be effected?

  12. In normal circumstances no, only 3 spacial dimensions. But there are some 'theories' around such as string theory that requires considerably more dimensions, but these are very 'curled up' and therefore in the classical world they cannot be noticed.

And would these extra dimensions be spacial or non-spacial?

    Or is it undecided?

    :)

  13. Space coordinates can only be used to describe everything's position at one specific time. And it would seem that other useful units contain time.

As a further question, may I ask, if is possible to have a fourth space dimension?

I don't know if anyone read that thread on the tenth dimension. But that was using time as the fourth dimension...then as the higher dimensions the idea that there are an infinity number of ways things can happen and then moving between these. Are all dimensions above the third likely to be non-spacial?

    Thankyou.

  14. I'm less qualified than all these lot because I'm in the same position as you. I'm taking note of what their saying at the same time. Everything Sysco said sounds very helpful but I still plan to look into stuff I'm interested in. There's no reason why we have to know all the details but if all you do is high school/college physics you'll get bored, with out a doubt.

On a further point, if I was you I would continue to participate in this site. I've been on for about a week and I've learnt so much about physics, maths, philosophy, arguing, politics, economics; just by saying what I think and reading the responses.

  15. kk. I think we've come to an end on this for a while. We'll just have to disagree on somethings.

Though I think at some point we should open a thread on whether the human species is devolving.

Could be interesting to have some other people's views on that.

    till then...:)

  16. I don't think that's an indicator.

To be honest I don't think there are any indicators of devolution. Would you not agree? That due social classes over the last couple of millenia or so there would be more naturally smart people held back and more naturally unsmart propelled forward in their success. And therefore a greater mix of genes.

By this I mean that your "group A" (lower classes) would contain many more intelligent people merely held back because of their position opposed in 'caveman times'. And the opposite in the upper classes.

This would mean that just because society's failures have more children that they wouldn't necessarily be more stupid than before. meh.

The human desire to be unique and special is powerful.

I would say that generally humans strive to be similar. Keeping up with the Jones', religion, gang culture I would say were examples of this.

However, the one thing we can predict, a raising of the average intelligence, would yield more "genius."

There is no genius that is one just because they're smart. There is always something in genuis' life that is different to the norm and has a knock-on effect.
